A DC fan worried about EJ? Hmmmm....;) Today is the first day of training this week, so somebody will probably be at practice to check it out.

In the event that Chivas/Hispanic Heritage Night does bring out a large Hispanic crowd on Sunday, it is really unfortunate Burciaga will be missing the game due to his red. He is someone the Hispanic demographic could identify with and come back to see/support in Wizards games not involving Chivas.

Could Nick Garcia have the same effect of winning over Hispanics? Wishful thinking, I think.

we've been doing Hispanic Heritage nights for years though, and the fans that do come out haven't "identified" with Garcia or Burciaga any of those times....

Yeah, I am a DC fan, but Eddie, Jimmy, & Jose are 3 of my favorite people in MLS. They actually took the time to talk to me and my son when we met them, and seemed very genuine about it. My sons name is Jimmy and so they had an instant bond.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess a DC fan or two might have Eddie Johnson on their mls fantasy team..

    ^had to fix your grammar.

they might have better luck with "Hispanic Heritage Night" if they translated it to spanish and advertised it in places that other Hispanic humanoids might actually be.

When Chivas USA was starting up, there were posts from folks (not in this forum) saying that Nick should go to Chivas.

I guess because his last name is Garcia they assume that he's still got one foot over the border.

Frankly, I think I may speak more Spanish than Nick does.

When Fabbro joined the Wizards, his translator was Taylor Graham.

Last names in the U.S. don't necessarily indicate anything culturally, or even ethnically.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the xrays were negative on Sasha. And according to MLS:

In cases when the referee sees a play on the field and exercises his judgment not to issue a red card, the committee will not act unless it determines that: a) a consequent injury occurred and b) it was an unequivocal red card offense and c) the offense was egregious or that extraordinary circumstances exist.

Since the ref saw the play but issued yellow and not red, the play would have to meed those three conditions for there to be a suspension. And since the xrays turned up negative, I'm not sure it's totally clear that Sasha was "injured" even though he was subbed out of the game.

Unfortunately for you guys, this isn't quite like the Andy Herron case, in which MLS suspended him for four games even though there was no injury. In that case, the ref didn't see the play so it didn't have to meet those conditions.

On the bright side, this might be an indication that Sasha wasn't hurt badly and should be ready to go this week.

Well Sasha couldn't finish the game on Sunday, because of that hit. He was subbed out due to "injury"... Since he was subbed out due to that I would think that would classify it as an injury.

Kind of ironic that a Crew fan brings up this topic, since Vituoso broke Jimmy's jaw and also didn't get suspended or even carded. So does this mean that somebody has to incur a injury where he has to miss a certain number of games, AND the guy has to be red-carded during the game in order to get suspended? If so, we are going to keep seeing our guys get nailed by elbows. Something really needs to change, especially since some refs are clearly blind or stupid or both.

I honestly have no idea how MLS defines an "injury." I was just speculating that maybe if he doesn't miss any full games then it doesn't technically qualify as an "injury," which would rule out a suspension. I'm not saying it's right (I actually thought for sure Ballouchy would be suspended for that when I saw the replay), but it occurred to me as a possible explaination.

Yeah, I actually brought it up mostly because I remembered a lot of the MLS rules regarding suspension from when the Herron and Virtuoso incidents occurred. And I agree that the current system is terrible. It actually rewards people for getting fouls and yellow cards against them. If no foul is called, the standard for suspension is basically just the whim of the disciplinary committee. However, if you do something blatant enough where the ref can actually see it, for some reason it takes a lot more to get suspended if he doesn't show a red (i.e. an injury has to occur). And to answer your question, no there doesn't need to be an injury AND a red card for a suspension to occur. If a foul is called, then injury but NOT red is necessary for a multi-game suspension (a la Kljestan). If no foul is called, then neither injury nor red are prereqs for suspension (a la Herron).

And just as a side note: Columbus is actually leading the league as far as the MLS fair play table is concerned, and I also think I made a fair case for why MLS made the correct call when it came to Viruoso. You can probably dig up the old thread in your forum and find it if you like.

I can't believe that there was no punishment for Ballouchy that's ridiculous. Does that mean a Wizards player can greet him with an elbow the next time they meet?

I find it strange that both Jimmy and Sasha took vicious elbows in almost the exact same spot on the field....they need to mark it with a big "X" so that if they see the ball dropping in that general area, they can take appropriate action and avoid it like the Bermuda Triangle. :D Maybe there's some kind of force field that turns ordinary players into mean nasty vicious animals when approaching that spot, like on "Lost" or something. It's also ironic that it is right in front of the opponent's bench.

Hmmmm...now that I think about it, this is also the same spot where Mathis lashed out at KZ. They need to dig up the turf in that spot to find out what's buried under there....

Maybe that is where they buried Warpaint-The Chiefs old mascot.;) Isn't that the same area of the field where the Trent Green thing happened to knock him out last year? Maybe it is considered an "Indian" burial ground.:D

 OMG...I think you're right. OK we gotta make sure that John Lock is there to enter the numbers right before halftime, since that's when it seems these little incidents keep happening (just a little "Lost" reference for those not in the know). Oh wait, he got shot and was left for dead, wasn't he? If SOMEBODY doesn't enter the numbers, that weird electromagnetic thing will happen and somebody will throw a wild elbow! :p

So apparently the league isn't going to do what's right. So I assume that means Onalfo and the blue are free from any fallout after their post game comments criticizing the referees. While I think they were correct in thier assessment of the situation I'd almost be surprised to see no fines come down. What's the word?

Match report for Sunday's game has Yura and EJ both listed as questionable. Scott Sealy is also listed as doubtful.

Sure wish this Eloy fellow was available if our front line is as banged up as the injury list indicates.

Well Davy has been playing up top with EJ anyways. I'd expect Eddie to play tomorrow, but I don't think Victorine will, which means I think we could see Pore start.

And since when has that injury report been accurate, anyway?
