    Forgive the english.

Samaras has the potential to be the better player, when he is in position, has he shown that potential, Yes.

    Regularly, No.
Emile is the better player as of now, but Samaras could be better. But seems like he & Vassell haven't made the greatest first impression on the all powerful Sven, could be out the door. Vassell seems likely to go cheaply as well which is no good...

the 15mill bid from M.City for Castillo was rejected. The player stays in Greece and signs a new deal next week.Papers and radios here say that Castillo's wish is to leave Olympiacos only for major clubs such as Valencia or Chelsea (interested).City and Shaktar (the only clubs tha made official bids) are not tempting for him .

If he doesn't want in, then we don't need him.

We need players that are passionate for our cause !!

It seems Alan Smith may be available soon after all.

I found this on Sky's user rumor page:

Sven will unveil Riquelme, Santa Cruz and Defoe this week and expect a bd to bring SWP back to Manchester. Watch this space..
    John Stevens - Manchester

I thought I would include it for howls.... I do not see Riquelme or SWP happening... Maybe Defoe and Cruz, though.

I was just watching City v Everton on the New Years day game. And Sammy was spectacular. Of course his play deminished two fold not long after that but he does do well when he has space to run at defenders. So there is hope. I just dont understand how a guy can be 6'4 and never want to head the ball?

Samaras' problem in the city shirt is that he needs a capable playmaker, to play him into space or to get him that space he needs. Unfortunately for us, we don't have a playmaker that good. Stephen Ireland is learning, but not an A grade playmaker, which is what Sven should be looking for (and by all reports is)

Theres way too many rumours going around about who we are about to sign. Its annoying to a degree lol, but in a nice annoying way. We really need to concentrate on signing a quality centreback and winger in the next week.

    I agree Alan.

It would be great to have some 'reliable' rumours in a sense, but our names are being bandied around everywhere.

I have a funny feeling the club may be interested in Yakubu, & a striker from Shakter Donesk (sp?) because they posted up articles in the "what the papers say" section on the homepage

We really do need a centre half or two. A really good one and a kid to learn the position would be great ! And if the kid (yes, i have forgotten his name already) can hold down a spot on one wing that would be a massive plus to the side.

We've been linked with Scott Carson. Jesus, we DONT need a new keeper! I hope Sven realises this! Hart is a more than capable backup keeper to Isaksson and the potential he has is enormous. If we are going to sign Carson, who isn't much older than Hart, then where does Hart belong? I wouldn't see the point in signing Carson when we desperately need more midfielders and a central defender at the very least. Its really frustrating at the moment cos we are being linked to different players but we haven't signed anyone for 5 days! I'm overreacting but I just thought we would of signed someone in this time lol :)

Another player who's constantly linked with us is Petrov at Atletico Madrid. Its turning into a bit of a saga this. BBC Manchester reported last Monday that we were gonna sign him and he was going to be Sven's third signing. Later that day, MEN denied he was going to sign but confirmed that contact had been made with Petrov's agent. The last couple of days in some newspapers, it said that Spurs will sign him (News of the World) but then theres been others that have said we will sign him and we are on the "verge" of doing so (Daily Mirror). He has spoken about how much he'd love to play in the same team as Berbatov so we're probably outsiders yet again...

Here's what I am hearing from Spurs end on Petrov. We have been stalling on the approach because Martin Jol desperately wanted SWP. That's not going to happen, which most of us could have told him six weeks ago. Petrov and Berbatov are supposedly really tight so he wants to come to us to join him. We have a need for him because we haven't had anyone with a left foot since Ginola. Now it looks like our director is in Spain to work this out.

How much of that is true and how much is completely b.s. is hard to say. I would put this as 55-45 favoring our chances of signing him at the moment. But we waited too long and if someone like Sven comes in and shows him that he is wanted, I would think City could easily trump Spurs.

Good post - I completely agree. Spurs will be favourites because of Europe and obviously Berbatov will be a massive massive lure for him to go there. I don't even know whether we're after him because all of the rumours have not come true. No newspaper reported we were after Fernandes, Bianchi or Giovanni but then again none of them are particularly well known so it could be expected. I'd absolutely love for us to Petrov, but its getting to the stage where any quality winger will do. From other rumours though (if they are true) we'd probably offer stupid amounts for his wages but he'd probably prefer already knowing someone in the squad and european football rather than a bit more money.

I'll believe it when it's on the mcfc site.

Almost too good to be true.

Sounds like a very decent player.

This article says you guys have offered 7m for Chiellini, and have already finalised a deal with Juve for Manuel Blasi. So you'd get a left back in Chiellini and a versatile player in Blasi who can play right back and defensive midfield (I think).

Seems like the last few day's P&Q has not been wasted by Sven.

If this is True, And Castillo, Chiellini & Blasi coming to the COMS..Could be a decent team this year.

Can Chiellini play CB ?? Or is he strictly a LB ?

He plays centre back too. A few of the posters on the Italy board rate him better as a centre back, and towards the end of the U21 championships he did very well when shifted into the middle of defence.

Just looking at a clip of Chiellini playing for the Azzuri & Juve.

Seems a lot like Fabio Cannavaro, but nowhere near as physically intimidating. Threat at set pieces, Good Header, Good Reflexes, Fast & can cross the ball, and can take a bit of punishment on the field.

Seems like a very safe buy. If the article is true, a very good bit of business Sven.

Decola, Seeing as you know a fair bit about the boy, would this quick glance through Youtube ring true ?

Cheillini's the type of player who'll throw his body into any ball in the box or on the field and get kicked in the noggen or butt heads and have his head bandaged like a mummy with blood everywhere and still keep playing...he's a tough kid and a good organizer in the back for the u-20 team. This isn't a good signing, it's a coup.

Signing them three players would be absolutely amazing, but lets wait until the official confirmation. We've been linked with far to many players and these just might be rumours still. I've been let down too many times before with rumours so lets approach with caution and only let the party begin when its guaranteed.

Their signing would most likely be a great move, but is anyone else a tad concerned about SGE's extreme focus on Serie A players (or, even more generally, non-English)?

As of right now, by my count, only a little under half of the team is domestic (that number drops significantly if you assess the starting squad). Add Castillo, Chiellini, and Blasi and the percentage drops even lower. Sign Bresciano, Fae, and Thai players (as Sven and TS are keen to do) and it drops to near a third. And that is assuming all the domestic players remain.

Now, I am all for a great squad, and being a Spanish supporter that grew up in Manchester I do not have much a problem with it myself. But I can imagine the English supporters might get a bit disgruntled when they realize that a English squad has few to no English players on the starting squad or reserves and surpasses even the likes of Manyoo and Chelsea in international team composition.

I am probably wrong about their reaction and am just being an alarmist, though. What do you lads think?
