I even went as far as to start my very first topic to ask about this... I waited around for a while for someone else to start it for me, but for some reason you all failed to do so - I'm dissapointed in all of you... what are you hear for if not to entertain and educate me?

So anyways - those of us in the know (read: not me), where is this fellow that we were rumored about? Still here in evaluation, waiting on paperwork or what? If you're not allowed to tell anyone, then just tell me in a PM and I'll make sure nobody else hears it... promise.

I looked for him at practice last Wednesday, but could not locate him. That doesn't mean he wasnt' there, but neither Georger nor I could find him.

He's locked away in a tiny broom closet in the bowels of Arrowhead...along with 3 more of Derrick Thomas' children that we don't know about and our shooting accuracy.

'Twould be nice to have a player not named Eddie Johnson who can score goals.

Well Yura has been known to score, but only as a halftime sub for Scott and only during road games (with the exception of his first goal against Toronto) and only if the moon is full :D . Anybody know what phase the moon will be in this weekend?

I still have high hopes for Yura and think that in a few years he will be a star (maybe not the top goal scorer of the league or anything, but maybe All-Star potential), but I think that he's still a bit too 'raw' right now and needs some time. I hope he continues to get some first team appearances late in games b/c I think it's great for him and that he gives us a different look, but he's not the solution to our problems.

I'm always excited when I hear about new possible signings and want to see what they can do for us. I was hoping that there was some word about what was happening but doesn't seem like it now.

I agree with you on both topics (though doubtful about All Star potential too). I was hoping to see this new guy come in and help resolve our finishing woes, but haven't heard anything new or positive about his signing lately. It did get as far as an article on MLSnet.com, but kinda fizzled out after that. Too bad Robb won't fill us in, since he was the first one to tease us about this guy.

you do realize that he is still only like 19 right?

he COULD become a star player in the league

he just turned 20

I agree about Yura. He's got the physical tools to be a good player he just needs to refine his game a bit. Especially his finishing, like JMT said he is only 20 so he's got plenty of time on his side.

Yeah, I realize....people keep mentioning his age. :p I was talking "All Star" potential, not star potential. With the current style of selecting All Stars (only one team to cover the whole league), I doubt he will get to the point of being one of the top four strikers in the league. I hope it DOES happen....it would give us something to look forward to, but not with the current All Star format. Yes, I think with more work and molding he can become a good goal scorer in this league. He has shown flashes of it already. I doubt we would have wasted a first round pick on him if the scouts didn't think so. I actually look forward to him coming on as a sub when we need an injection of energy on the field, kinda like the feeling when Davy and Jack used to be Supersubs a few years ago.

I think think Yura (in his short professional career) might ALREADY be the all-time MLS leader in the category of:

"STRIKERS WHO ARE WIDE OPEN IN THE BOX ONLY TO HAVE THEIR SHOT BLOCKED BY A SLIDING DEFENDER WHO WAS JUKED OUT OF POSITION ON THE STRIKER'S INITIAL TOUCH OF THE BALL BUT DUE TO UNNECCESSARY HESITATION ALLOWED SAID DEFENDER ENOUGH TIME TO MAKE A PLAY"

That's harder to spell than Movsisyan, and think of how badly Glenn Davis will screw up THIS name during the few televised games on HDNet!!

I think Yura is pretty good right now. I dont see anyone else creating opportunities 1v1 or 1v2 in the box. Yeah he hesitates and gets shots blocked but i think it gets lost that there would be no opportunity for a blocked shot if the ball is not on his foot. I dont see anyone else getting chances that aren't breakaways.

There'd also be no opportunity for the shot to be blocked if he wouldn't hesitate.

if he's creating those chances but not finishing them, it's the same as those that aren't creating breakaways, no goals on the board.

You beat me to it. I was going to say that used to be Chris Brown's job.

Of course in Brownie's case, there usually wasn't a defender, but he would still miss the goal.

Yeah, no defender, five feet from goal, and would put it over the bar! Brown BLEW! Anyways, if we don't pick anyone up, I sure hope Davy starts finding the back of that net more frequently.

Eddie Johnson, 10 goals. 1 goal per 90 minutes played
Yura Movsisyan, 4 goals. 1 goal per 141 minutes played.
Davy Arnaud, 3 goals. 1 goal per 472 minutes played
Michael Harrington, 3 goals. 1 goal per 477 minutes played
Kerry Zavagnin, 2 goals. 1 goal per 720 minutes played

While Yura has plenty of room for improvement, saying he is "terrible" seems to be a bit harsh.
