since it seems like most people here drawn to the contemplated supporters group are LA or So Cal based and assumedly want CDCUSA to recognize its LA identity a bit more, maybe some reference to LA, So Cal, the Pacific, should be incorporated into the name. I actually like the 80s street gang names. LA Asylum sounds crazy, plus all the cubans.
As it stands, this new group is going in different directions. This is a good thing. I propose we meet on Saturday night at the game. Due to family obligations, I personally won't be able to attend. However, bring your ideas and concerns, exchange e-mails (or numbers), and narrow down the name situation to three. (just remember, there is no one name everyone will agree to). Therefore, keep your minds open. I was thinking Southend of HDC since we'll be the southside group. This is the first goal of the new group. Second, e-mail me at chicano851@netscape.net with the 411. We'll pick a date to log on Bigsoccer and make this happen. I plan on meeting with the front office when all come together on this. Once again, I apologiize for not being able to make it. WE CAN MAKE THIS HAPPEN!!!
I won't be able to make it this Saturday either, but would love to meet up and tailgate at the next game. Yikes, that looks like late August.
I am in for this Saturday, lets get things rolling. As it stands I see where potential supporters would be put of by either communist or gang related names. I doubt that the CDUSA front office would truly embrace a supporters group that sounds like a PR liability. With that said we can still use an militant reference without crossing those lines. We can also use a name that represents our section as a name for the group. A few military examples may include terms such as the Fort, Arsenal, Battery, Stockade, or Presidio. As far as I'm concerned we are in a provisional stage, where brainstorming is welcome. The last thing that we should do is rush our decision making. We need to think long term anyways. Afterall, we are aligning with an organization that is nearing a century mark. Fire away, and keep adding to the debate!
Curious, what is the history of Legion 1908? How did they get their name? Most teams and supporter group names (not all) have a historical meaning that represents their identity. Example, the Dodgers got their name from fans dodging trolleys back in NY. I wonder instead of just trying to create a name, should the group just organize and wait until it develops an identity that will help formulate a name by the reputation of the group. Maybe just call itself the No Name group or the unknown soldiers of Chivas. Let time and history define who we are as a group. I just feel that MLS fans and teams worry too much about their identity and feel the need to copy other countries traditions. Talk about inferiority complex. C'mon what's up with teams adding FC to their names and we call the sport "soccer" in USA. Maybe, I'm just thinking too much but I guess this is what we call brainstorming, right.
what do you guys/girls (if Any) think of the name Evolution or Evolution Army maybe even Evolution Empire since the supporter group is changing into something other then the LEGION???
This group is pretty clear in its goals as a supporters group. We are a diverse group of fans that share a dedication of support "exclusively" towards Chivas USA. If you choose to become one of "us" then you must abandon your allegiance towards the Galaxy. As for Legion 1908 fans, "we" will welcome them with open arms. This group has no interest in coddling to a eurosnob group or a sense of inferiority. If that was the case, we would change our colors and overvalue are product when any Euro player came along. Instead our interests are based on the front of the jersey rather than the back. No doubt, our identity will develop but we need to have a form of recognition. A name, color, and logo usually go a very long way in this process.
OK, I have a strange sense of humor, ... since we are known as the " Goats " throughout the league, we should call the new group " RED HERD " or " FOREIGN LEGION " Sorry, back to my corner for a timeout.
Victoria st. Boys Victoria st. Bucks I dunno, Victoria st. is where most of us tailgate etc. So, why not.
Ya, I heard LARS was considering a name change to Victoria St Beckham Posh Boys...... or somethign like that.
I'll be at the match Saturday.... not sure what time I'll show but I hang out in 137. How about meeting at the VIP area? Free nachos! Still can't figure out why it's a VIP area. Makes no sense if they let me in.
