Thanks for the updates Resendes. What position does Vitoria play? It says central, but is that midfield? And any idea if he's an 87 or a late 86? I was wondering about 2007 WYC eligibility.

    cheers,

Tks for the update and the man actually posted a link. Doesn't get any better!

Now Resendes, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to provide a brief translation. What exactly is a luso-canadiano? And pardon my ignorance what is a B squad? Reserves...youth?

Luso from the word Lusitania from the word Lusitani (loosĬtān´ēe)
The Roman province of the Iberian Peninsula constituted 5 AD by Augustus.

Luso is a term used to categorize people of Portuguese Heritage.

Porto B team plays in the second division.
Players promoted to the first team are from the B team.

I'll try to contribute whenever I can.
I know I like to hear about canadian talent myself.
If everyone contributes a little bit will all benefit.

    He's an 87.
    Mississauga Area.
This is actually his second time around in Portugal, he spent some time with
the Benfica A-(U??) the season before last, but I never seen him listed on the big list of Canadians until his signing w/ Porto. He's a friend of mine and an even better soccer player lol.

    I. I maintain the site http://esperancaportista.blogspot.com, with info on young fc porto players. I did a small prophile of Steven when his name surfaced
    http://esperancaportista.blogspot.com/2005/06/fc-porto-b-steve-vitria-defesa-central.html
I know he is now in the u19 (junior) team and not playing yet due to an annoying flu.

Please contact me: morphy.forever@gmail.com with details of his career in Canada. If I could have a way of talking to him (messenger, email) it would be also excellent.

    Cheers!

Yes steven has joined fcPorto B and had his first official game yesterday as he had been playing with the youth squad until yesterday when he got a chance to play with the reserves after their center back being lended to another team. They won 1-0 and he played well from what he had told me. Another canadian born goalkeeper from toronto, Jon Paul Piques, is Playing on the reserves of Sporting Braga who are currently sitting in 4th place tied in third (portugueese first division), i found this out my check out www.scbraga.pt and its under equipa B. I also believe that steven and jon paul have been asked to train with the portuguese natioanl youth squads which is terrible to hear because canada should have noticed these kids talents, way before they went over seas to play. http://www.scbraga.com/mpcore.php?name=Jogadores&l_op=infoJogador&id=320

another canadian has been called up by portugal u-21. GK daniel fernandes from vancouver plays for PAOK in greece. previously played for fc porto B and celta vigo B. i think he had a falling out with dale mitchell during the world youth cup qualifying a couple years ago

marco unfortunatly steven was not capped for portugal's u-19 squad he went to practice with them but was not called for the tournament because the roster was already set before he got to practice with them which made it very difficult for him to join the roster. after speakin with him the other day all is well and he continues to play/practice with the b team. as for jon paul, he has been practicing with the A team and been training well. they both come back the second or third week of may, as i was told.

    cheers

Look's like Steven is back! this time playing for the Portuguese Nathional team. What happened to the CSA? too bad he is not playing for Canada.

This thread was started in 2005 but I thought it should be revived.

Jon Paul, if you come back to this board can you elaborate on how you feel the CSA dropped the ball with you and Vitoria at that time? I understand Vitoria was training at the NTC at one point so it seems they would have known about him? Not sure if you trained at the NTC also, but did they never call you or did Mitchell say something to you guys? The subject has come back up recently with Vitoria rep. Portugal in the U20's, just curious what happened...

Another ungreatfull Canadian. Guess sitting and watching in this U-20 is better than being a Starter for Canada. Its a real shame that these kids have no respect for the country they where born in.

Man you just don't get it do you? If one player leaves, fine, blame him. When you have a continual stream leaving, the individual is not the issue or the problem. The problems lie elsewhere.
Did you ever ask yourself this?? :

Why does the CSA (and the various provincial associations for that matter), continually create an environment that forces our canadian players to not choose to play for their country??

fc hrv, you don't get it - just like Vitoria - when it comes to country, you don't turn your back just because mommy isn't there to make everything perfect.

And then if you do decide to play for another country, don't come back and say you're a proud Cdn and looking forward to play in your hometown - because in Cdn football supporters eyes, he's a traitor and a foreign country whore.
