http://http://estadis.eluniversal.com.mx/deportes/92377.html According to el Universal it will be a 12 team deal with 3 from north america, and 5 from Central and Caribean, which doesnt make sense because the math dont add up. A confederations ticket will be awarded to the winner. http://www.laopinion.com/deportes/gen3/?rkey=00000000000001918770 According to LA Opinion It will be an 18 team tourney in the US, late 08 early 09. Justino Campeon pres of Mexican Federation said "Three teams from North America, five from Central America: Honduras, El Salvador, Panama, Nicaragua, Guatemala, and the rest from the Caribbean that have not been determined." Also it will be held in the states and two teams from all confederations will play as well as the club world Championships. If the US were two win the second and third place team will play off. Oh and Concacaf will try to bring Copa America to Mexico in 2011 and then the US in 2012 Cheers.
Yea, I read something about this on another site too (will look for the link later). Aparently, Jack Warner was thinking of this idea during the Gold Cup and it looks like he wants to implement it early 2009. It is all very confusing though. It talks about both national teams and club teams, so I dont know whats going on there. I think he means that 8 teams from Concacaf will play along with one from each of the other 4 Conferences. And besides, how in hell are they going to be able to send 2 Concacaf teams to the Confederations Cup? Unless it expands to 12 teams and I have heard nothing about something like this happening. Edit: OK I just read both articles and these are some key points: - Confederations Cup 2009 will now have 12 teams, 2 from each conference (had anyone heard of this?) - The Gold Cup is dead, and is being replaced by the Copa Concachampions - It is being implemented to give the Carribean teams a chance to have more participations - It will be played by Mexico, USA, Canada, El Salvador, HOnduras, Panama, Nicaragua, Guatemala and the rest are going to be Carribean teams (No mention of Costa Rica, which is very odd)
Thats what he is talkig about, he is talking about expanding Confederations Cup which makes $en$e. i dont know where you got the 8 concacaf teams though, the article doesnt mention anything like that set up. Confederations 09 if this indeed happens: WC: Italy CCC: US, Mexico (I hope) Uefa: Germany, England* Africa: Cameroon, Ghana Conmebol: Brazil, Argentina Asia: Austarlia, Japan Oceania: New Zealand 12 teams, three groups, sounds good to me. * I just picked teams that I think are alright not by their on field performance
I wasnt talking about the Confederations Cup, I was talking about the Concachampions, but after reading both articles, it all made sense, and I edited it.
