An assist isn't good enough for you? Why do we demand so much of American players--they need to be scoring a goal or two per game against inferior competition? Oh, wait, this isn't the US-Guatemala thread, is it?
Joking right? Davis is a forward in the USMNT pool that has never scored a professional goal. One would be a small step in the right direction.
My "direct reporting" match tracker (in conjunction with my bad Swedish) tells me that Norrköping equalized in the 83rd minute. 1-1.
Game ends, 2-1 to Norrköping who scored off a free kick (I think) at the death. The worst part is that Charlie seems to have missed a sitter from just a few feet out in the 90th minute.
1-2 is the final result as N-ping scored on a free kick in the last minute. CD missed an open goal just before. Will expect "eye witness" reports later on tonight.
Charlie hit the post with a header and also missed, as said, open goal from just a couple of feet. Insanely good opportunity, even I would never miss that. He also missed a couple of really really good opportunities, he'll really have to work on that. Besides from his ineffectivity in front of goal, he made a good performance. A very unfair result. Hammarby owned the game from minute one and made lots and lots of opportunities. The ref. missed a 100% clear penalty when Petter Andersson was brutaly broght down in the penaltyarea, is was starting think he was blind. "Peking" scored 1-2 in the last minute, when Hammarby's 2:nd kepper Erland Hellström made a pretty big mistake. The game could just as well have ended 5-0 to Hammarby. If only Charlie was a little bit more effective in front of goal and if Paulinho had played the game... Well, well. Life's not fair...
Oh Charlie, Charlie what a misserable day... He was the King in 88 minutes and everybody loved him. He created a lot of chances but the ball was either saved or it went just outside. He could have scored 4 goals and he SHOULD have scored 2... But in the 89th minute, standings was 1-1, Charlie dribbles himslef totaly free and just have to nod the ball over the line. But Charlie decides to shot as if he was 15 meters from the goal line and he shots over the bar from 1 meter!!! The next thing that happens is that Norrköping gets a fri kick and due to a deflection it ends up in goal and Hammarby loose and Charlie becomes the scapegoat. First half was equal and 0-0 was fair. Hammarby had everything in the second half and the match should have ended 3-0. But no... Im so upset right now, you would not believe it...
I cant belive this shiit CD miss from 3 yard on a open goal and shoots over in 90th minute....... Its lucky for CD to play with Hammarby if he had played in any other club iam shore he had been a water boy But but Hammarby is Hammarby Forzza CD/Hammarby we still think he will be a great scorer sooner or later
My sympathies to you. Such a miserable feeling, to lose a game like that in the dying minutes. I look forward to seeing the highlights. I'm sure the coach is giving Charlie a good talking to right about now.
If he is not clutch scoring or plain scoring for Hammarby then he is of absolutely no use to the USMNT. Jaevle!
http://www.hammarbyfotboll.se/se/aktuellt/artiklar/?articleid=30721 There's an article on Charlie ... with my knowledge of the Nordic languages, I believe it opens with "Charlie was brilliant ... and then not."
Here is a bad translated summery of the interwiev: Charlie was brilliant against Norrköping - exept from getting the ball in the net. He had four great opportunities and blew them all... -This is the hardest time in my career, says Charlie. He dribbled, ran and made an assist, but he didn't score. In the last minute he made an unbelievable miss when he shot over the bar from a meter (about 3-4 feet). - I thought "now it's almost in" and so i tried to smash it in and it went over. My problem is that I am too eager when I'm about to shoot. Later in the intervjue he says: - It feels like I've failed the team, the fans and the coach, all deserved to win this game and it feels like I've let everyone down. - I wish we had a game tomorrow. We have a derby on tuesday and I hope that I can provide the team. I made an assist today, and I created a lot of opportunities, did good things on the pitch, but I didn't put the ball in the net. So he was pretty disappointed after the game. And I feel really bad for the guy. Life goes on...
No moving pics from the actual match since there was no tv crew on the spot. But there is an interview with Charlie (I have not watched it, hope it works). http://www.svenskafans.com/fantv/player/dev_flash.asp?clip=3390&cat=0&list=all For the record. It seems like Charlie still has all the trust from the fans, despite yesterday. The fans where singing for him every time he missed a chance, to show that he got their support. Better to miss a chance then not creating them at all.
I found this video of the match on Youtube: http://youtube.com/watch?v=80MlFGHNM6k It clearly shows that there was in fact a stadium with a grassy surface, possibly with players of some kind of sport on it. Obviously, the only reasonable conclusion from this video evidence is that Davies is a failure in Europe and should return to the US and play in MLS. There are a couple of other videos too, but the quality is not as good, so I don't think they can tell us much...
Interview wtih coach Tony Gustavsson: http://www.hammarbyfotboll.se/se/aktuellt/artiklar/?articleid=30725 He has some words to say about Charlie. - Charlie is felling much better today then expected. I want to give him credit because he faces media right after the game and handles the situation very proffesional. - Obviously his is very frustrated that he does not score but he fells in good shape and he can not be criticized for his performance in the game, only that he does not score.
Uh, I hope the highlighted sentence is a misquote, because that is not a good thing to hear from a (potential) goal-scorer. If fact, the entire thought process described is troubling. Memo to CD: Stop thinking and start scoring.
