Nesta was beat twice by Gerrard. All 3 of the other CBs had a better game than him.

I thought the referee was a bit indifferent, but I wouldn't say he was awful. Definitely think there's reason for complaint with being stiffed on the added time, and a couple of foul decisions were a bit iffy, but I hate to say I don't really blame the decision on the first goal. The call could have gone either way - even watching replays I'm still undecided about intent, and the benefit of any doubt is supposed to go to the attacker.

Very disappointed with the result. It's such a shame to see a side with so much potential to win a match finding it unable to convert.

    Hey,
I just wanted to offer my condolensces to you guys... you were the better team on the night and had no luck. The first goal could have easily been ruled out and it just seemed so harsh given the run of play. Ironically, I think the team actually played better than they did two years ago. It just goes to show that the better team doesn't always win in football. My only question is... how in the world does a team, who can play like that against the Milans, the Chelseas and the Barcas of this world manage to finish 21 points below Manchester United in the leaugue? You guys seemed to handle Milan so much better than Man U.

You guys got a lot of unlucky breaks and did the premiership proud.

Congrats on a well played match and fine run in the champions league... and as for next year... play like that against Fulham!!!!

i think for the 'hand ball' by inzaghi that it was impossible to tell on the first time (even the replay was iffy)

I don't think there was intent though. It seemed more that he was trying to duck and it happened to hit him

I find myself disagreeing with all of those drooling over Pennants performance. Though he constantly beat his man down the wing, he failed to produce any chances on goal off of his crosses. They all floated harmlessly over the goal mouth. This could partly be the fault of having a single striker and no Crouch on the field for nearly the entirety of the game. When you have a winger beating the hell out of his man, a single holding forward is a waste.

Yeah I agree ... it is time camera replays were introduced for matches like this... you can't really blame the ref... there's no way he could have seen that... especially if the wall was blocking his view... the linesman had Aggar in his way too... the champions league final is too important to be decided by the naked eye in a split second... but what can you do about it... it's just bad luck... in Istanbul, Liverpool had it (Alonso's penalty for instance) - but tonight they just didn't. You could tell the minute that happened it wasn't going to be Liverpool's day.

I agree, to an extent. While his execution was a bit poor, his intentions were troubling for Milan and Jankulovski.

I think we would have beat this team soundly with a healthy Garcia and Kewell available.

but even we, who have seen the replay, still can't agree on whether it should have counted or not, so I don't think it would have made a difference. The decision would have been just as controversial

In 2005 Milan deserved to win
In 2007 Liverpool deserved to win

Milan has won 7 CL and remains the biggest european club behind Real Madrid.

I think Istanbul nightmare is definitely behind us.

    bye

in the rules. and the linesman and refs are told to always give the benefit of the doubt to the attackers (though this rarely happens and usually the benefit of the doubt goes to the defender, especially on offside calls)

Well I'm back from the pub, heart-broken and feeling the same things that everyone else here is feeling. I know now, what it must've felt to be a Milan supporter in '05, the football gods have evened things out. We were dominant today, as Milan were 2 years ago and we lose the cup.

A lot of things can be said, and have been. "Why did Rafa wait so long to put Crouch in the game?" Why did the refs not allow the full 3 minutes of stoppage time to be played, or even add more?

These questions will continue to be asked again and again.

Truth is, when Gerrard missed on the pass from Pennant in the first half, you know the one that looked like he hurdled over the ball? I had a feeling things were going to go awry. Gerrard noemally sinks those kind of shots. Dida benefitted greatly from our inaccuracy in shooting today. Plain and simple. We had the chances but could not finish. Riise missed a shot he normally makes by inches.

We had Milan on the run from the get go, but all they needed was the few chances we gave them, and they capitalized, which is what a champion does. We capitalized on our chances in Istanbul, like champs Milan did it today.

One thing we have though is a reason to continue to raise our heads up high. Our boys fought like champs and did not let up. I am VERY F****N PROUD of our boys in Red today!

To all the Idiots that were trolling on our boards earlier from manure and the bitters, we lost in the FINAL!!!! The FINAL!! you know , that game that is the LAST one! the game were inly the BEST get to play! You know...the FINAL!!!!

Hats tipped to Milan. We've got next year.

    WHEEEN youu WAAAALKK......

I've never read it "in the rules." I've also been a linesman/referee for 10 years, and have never been told this rule by anyone.

ok guys this really is shameful for several resosons...while liverpool deserved the win i really would not call either team very good tonight especially not magnicifect....

milans gola scoring chances which were few came from either bad calls or their own play but liverpools came from milans terribly shaky defense so its not like either controlled the game really

another thing....if anyone deseves a place in the finals its both these teams...liverpool for kicking out the champs and chelsea and milan for kicking out manchester united....

as for the goal that went in with the "hand", absolutyl ridiculous, first it hit inzaghi beteewn the shoulder and the elbow but, 2 things that made it leagal were:
1.-that the arm was on the body and so that is never a hand ball..
2.- he wasnt looking at the play so its not like he delibiratly cheated

the best goal of the game by far was milans and the best player was inzaghi....and then kaka.....he made the game as entretaining as it was...

clearly i am not a liverpool fan but its very hipocritical when liverpool fans say that milan got, lucky, or cheated or what ever, when milan absolutly harrased liverpool 2 years ago and it was 6 minutes in a match were milan just fell asleep....

milan played a boring yet productive game today where as liverpool had bad tactics and certianly werent spectacular

sometimes you score 1, or 2...i think todays game was a bit more for liverpool to win but milan took their chances and liverpool did not and that is what it comes down to at the end..

while it was very stupid not to add the complete three minutes, the subs made during those three are part of the compensation time and no more should be added, but, the three minutes definalty should have been added...and they game ended at 2:49 of extra time, not 2:30 like some have said.

anyways congrats for being in the finals and putting up a display of honor and good football

the loss of Luis Garcia, our Euro specialist, was significant

he had already scored 3 goals in 7 CL matches

missed his creativity -- and in addition to his spectacular strikes, he often would add some nice follow-up tap-ins that were missed this year after his injury

look at the Final two years ago -- Xabi just barely beat out Luis to knock in his saved penalty -- and, of course, the 2005 Semi-Final winner

Pennant, Gonzo, etc were not successful enough in Garcia's absence

Well, that sucked, and I'm gutted. It's one thing to lose; it's another thing entirely to lose as the better team. But that's football. Congrats to Milan.

    Roll on August!
