    These are goals For.

    What are Boca's goals Against?

BTW, it's not a bad idea to bring in players with ties to the former USSR, as there are sizeable emigre communities in most major US cities.

The problem with these communities is that they think MLS is basically crap.

    Re: Shevchenko and MLS

There is a huge Ukrainian community in and around Toronto that would LOVE to see Sheva with Toronto FC. But then again, the kind of superstar that he is, I'm assuming that ANY soccer fan would love to see him here, so the ethnicity of the player is basically a non-factor in this case.

Drogba also praised MLS and said he could see himself over here someday.

Anyway Shevchenko had a good season in my opinion. Some of his goals were spectacular and with the way Chelsea plays I don't know why they expected 30 goals. If he comes to MLS within the next 3 years he will probably be the best striker the league has ever known. In my opinion if in the right situation he is still in the top 10 in the world.

If you are talking about Donadoni, he was almost certainly the best field player the league had in its early days, and you could even argue that he might be the best field player ever in the League over the span that he played, which was only two seasons. He went back to Milan and helped them win a Serie A title.

Lothar played like shyte for a good chunk of his time over here, but was coming off a Bundesliga player of the year award. His skills were still largely there, as evidenced by the fact he played much better toward the very end of the year. Unfortunately, he was a jerk and didn't really care that much at that point.

Not sure where Sheva would fit in, but we'll take another Donadoni any time.

'Sheva and Ballack will not be sold' - Kenyon

    http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=431860&cc=5901

    -----------
LONDON, May 20 (Reuters) - FA Cup winners Chelsea expect to sell three players in the close season but they will not include Andriy Shevchenko or Michael Ballack, the club's chief executive said on Sunday.

'It's not going to happen (selling Shevchenko and Ballack). We brought both these players in for three, four years, we didn't bring them in for a season and we knew fully well what their capabilities are and their prospects,' Kenyon told BBC radio.

'I'm confident they're going to be here as big players with Chelsea next season.'
    -----------

and i doubt Kenyon would let these expensive players leave on a free anytime soon

...hasnt the idea of "famous guy from _______ will draw lots of _________ fans" been pretty much and pretty thoroughly debunked by now? Shevshenko would draw people because of who he is but the "ethnic" angle I hoped would have died by now.

understatement of the year. :) Sheva cost Papa Roman, what? $64 million dollars for the transfer? I doubt they'd take anything less than $25-30M and I don't see any club in MLS ponying up that kind of green anytime soon.

Then, if he tanks again next year and they do let him go, the question has to be begged; "Does MLS want/need a guy like that?"

So, do you think he knows Becks isn't really getting $250m?

Odds favor he doesn't- after all, he think his season was 'not bad', despite the fact Bocanegra had more league goals than him.

He's in Lala land with most of the other foreignor 'stars'- thinking he can come to MLS at 35, and make the same wage Ambramovich is paying him...

    Re: Shevchenko and MLS

I would still say yes for one reason. The quality of play. Lets face it, MLS isn't the EPL and probably won't be at least anytime soon. It is just an all-around better league, players, FO's, Managers. Just because he doesn't do that well there doesn't mean he would be bad here. Look I love MLS as much as everyone else on here but truth is our clubs aren't as good as top-flight clubs in EPL.

You all are overlooking the real benefit of Shevchenko coming over. That being Mrs. Shevchenko.

Re: Shevchenko wants to play in the US

This is the third one of these - please see the General forum where rumor-type player discussions tend to be located (or the even further off the grid Fans forum) for Sheva speculation. Also, we have a rumors and speculation thread stickied at the top of N&A.

    Cheers-

    Re: Shevchenko and MLS

There are so many factors to that with answers unknown to us that it would be hard to say.. Let's say, for one factor, suppose an MLS team and owner suddenly decides they must have him next year (after another season at Chelsea or somewhere..) and put a humungous deal on the table that makes him go "wow"! There are owners who can do that besides AEG, as you likely know.
Other factors unknown might be how important more time in the Euro Cups is to him personally.. His career "ego".. Personal factors.. ect. etc.. on and on..;)

If I had to bet my life on it, however, I would say 3 years from now though sooner would be nice..
