Haven't seen a thread on this yet. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/story?id=427270&root=mls&cc=5901 Interesting that Buzz pointed out that Ruiz is not hurt in the practice observations.
Oh Hell no!!! There is nothing Columbus has that I would want for him. If we were to trade Ruiz to any team I would expect nothing less than a player like Donovan.
' I might take that. Or anybody who can attack from the flank. He's been subbed twice lately. I thought our offense looked more dangerous and had better movement without him clogging up the middle. I also wonder about his salary situation vis-a-vis the DP. A trade is still a big risk, however.
So you think it's a better idea to stay with the 4-3-2-1 or whatever the hell you want to call it and trade Ruiz, than try what might be a more suitable formation given the team's "talent"?
Morrow has to be seing the same things we are. Ruiz and Cooper don't have any chemistry together. They are both very good forwards but the parts don't fit. Gaven would be a good fit as a wide winger but maybe the deal is to get Ruiz you also have to take a certain keeper who will now be relegated to the bench. With that salary cap room the team can really go after a DP.
Morrow has not wanted to play the 4-3-2-1 but was forced to by Ricchetti's slow arrival. Could be jumping the gun if he gives up before Pablo gets integrated or could be a big DP signing on the horizon. So far this is just a rumour right?
The only way I'd be in favor of that deal would be if the team used the newly availible SI spot to acquire an equally talented player. But to trade one of the best players in the league simply because he doesn't fit your pet system seems, imo, a bad way to manage.
Looking at your roster and ours, I think this would be a very hard deal to get done. We don't have anybody on our roster who could have the kind of impact on a team as Ruiz would, except for Marcos Gonzalez, but I don't think he will get traded. As one of your fans suggested, this would probably be for a package of draft picks and or allocations.
Trading Ruiz would be pathetic. From Captain to out??? Are we aiming for USL First Division salary cap or what???
Another interesting nugget. Goes to what I said in the last post-game thread about eneding a threat from the flank so defenses don't pinch in on us.
"It doesn't make a whole lot of sense the way they're [Dallas] playing tactically right now in that formation. To be playing Ruiz up top by himself and Cooper out wide really hurts them quite a bit." No kidding. Now whether the fact that we continue to stick with a retarded 1 forward formation means we're going to trade Ruiz is another matter.
When I see a graphic of the FCD 11 on ESPN or whatever, I see a 4-3-3. I don't like it one bit. This is a midfield league, and 3 with FCD's roster doesn't cut it when you a so damn young. When I see the team take the field, the shape the formed, and the movement, I see 3 defenders (the other is wandering), 1 midfielder doing all the work (Toja is the 1-0 NYRB loss), 1 midfielder eventually trying to help but doesn't quiet connect and abondons post, and 1 midfielder trying to provide width but winds up getting too disconnected. Up front Ruiz is Ruiz, and he's inefficient doing it. Cooper thinks CRon is in the house and has too impress. The other forwards try to get service. I don't like it one bit.
I am all for this trade. Ruiz has been figured out in this league and is an easy mark considering his lack of movement up front. In order for our new formation to be successful you need to have movement from your forward to create space for the other attackers to get involved in the play. So far the only thing Ruiz does is try to hold the ball up only to fall on his face when the defender hacks him but we don't get the call due to his reputation. The trade I wouldn't mind seeing happen: Ruiz for Tim Ward, Eddie Gaven or Robbie Rogers plus a high draft pick for next year.
"Ruiz has been figured out in this league and is an easy mark considering his lack of movement up front." Except that he was our leading scorer last year and already has 2 goals and an assist at the beginning of this season. So he must not be that easy of a mark. Oh and while they are using a couple of players to cover Ruiz that means one of our other players should be open.
I used to be a Gaven fan, when he was getting points, about three years ago. this is much like Guevara - how do we know that Gaven will go back to old Gaven once he gets here? tell ya what though: Grabavoy. as I recall, when Nagamura and Grabavoy were on the same team in LA, the idea was that they were filling the same role and therefore made each other superfluous. but right now we've seen Grabavoy take on more of an attacking, middle-dominating role while Nagamura seems to stick closer to home or drift out wide, so I think they've become significantly different than they could both be used to good effect.
tough to mark a player when he's alone in the box taking a penalty....and his other "goal" was, in fact an own goal incorrectly credited to Ruiz....
The 2 goals are the "own" goal where he was pressing a defender and possibly did not touch the ball and the penalty kick. Those could almost just as easily been registered to someone else.
the language of the story makes it sound like Sigi noticed Ruiz has been subbed out and thought, "hum I wonder if I can get Ruiz" No player is untouchable under Morrow's watch. Even Ruiz. If the offer were good enough I am sure they would listen. But it would have to be something huge.
