Edgar Davids to DC United but its too late for that one. (joke) :p To be honest i'm going to do the impossible and agree with krayzie (*shock* *horror*) on this one point: the best foreign signings for any MLS club would be talented players that european clubs over looked. They're not likely to be expensive and they are much more likely to try to get noticed in MLS as opposed to treat it as a retirement home.

That said i would not be opposed to DC United using their DP on T. Henry to open Poplar Point.

Calexico, you may have already seen this but here's a video of an interview with Robbie Keane and Andy Reid for Spurs TV just after Reid signed for them. It's hilarious! :)

No, I hadn't seen that! Thanks very much!

This is what I'm talking about though. People are wrapped up in big names, or pure talent - but what MLS desperately needs is some freakin' personality.

Seconded. Especially after watching the Man U/Milan game yesterday. Also, the league could use a bit more eye candy :D I mean seriously the man is gorgeous!!

Ronaldinho, Kaka and Palermo. BTW, they should all go to the Revs so we can sell out the razor every week and increase ticket prices :)

Almost forgot about C. Ronaldo, i only like him cause hes ManU, otherwise I cant stand the guy.. but i would like to see him in MLS making the defenders look really bad ;)

Exactly. Not taking a foreign spot is a nice bonus, too.

I'd look at Inter's Argentine Santiago Solari. Not a star but he's a great role player who has been a winner everywhere he's gone. And, he speaks English from having spent a semester playing college soccer here.

He's 30 so he's still in his prime but he's only a part-time player at Inter and while MLS couldn't offer him Serie A money, they could offer him a chance to be The Man, something he hasn't had previously in his career and that might appeal to him.

Those are good suggestions. And, they call to mind:

Tor Andre Flo. He's in the Championship. Don't know when his contract expires, but maybe he'd come here on a free?

Kanu, a part time player nowadays.

I don't even know where to start with this list. If this thread was for players who are a possible target for the MLS it would be one thing but to dream of favorite players makes it ridiculous. As for this list I just don't see much logic or true possibility. Joe Cole in Toronto? Tim Howard at RSL? He's from Jersey, if he ever comes back to the MLS it will be to play locally again.

The thread starter's question is what player would you try to sign... With that said an England capped player would be hugely popular in Toronto. As for Timmy, well I know he ain't coming but this is a dream thread... There are other threads for legitimate speculation.

Clearly, RSL could use Jan Koller (a double helping since there's no way he'd be pushing Eddie Pope out of the way).

Because I thought it was clear that I was talking in realistic terms, therefor, when someone posts Ronaldhino, etc. they're just taking the piss.

I though I'd deleted that post, too. I definately thought better of it afterward, and tried to deleted.

And, if there was any doubt, I meant realistic options. Yes, adidas shelled out a lot of money for Beckham. But, I don't think that's likely to happen again. I thought Gillespie is a very good player, that MLS could get for a reasonable salary, who you could get on a free, and who might like to have a go in the states. Plus, he's still in the Northern Ireland side, so it would give the league a little exposure when he's playing in Euro qualies.

Anyway, him, Flo, Kanu, & I like the Larssen suggestion. Is Litmanen still knocking around anywhere, or is he too old. Fowler would have been a good one. Where's Kevin Phillips these days? What's the status of Earnshaw's contract? That guy would light up the MLS.

How about Mark Viduka. He can still play at a high level and his contract is up in the summer. He's defintely more realistic than Henry, Ronaldhono etc.

Too bad he has said next year will be his last season playing, not just for ManU.

I second Kanu. He wants a 2 year deal from Portsmouth but Redknapp probably won't give it to him. MLS could.

Also wouldn't mind seeing Raul or Giggs.

Now that it looks like Man U will win the prem, I'd go for Scholes or Giggs.

Neither will be first choice starters next year, but they both would settle for playing in 60-70% of the games next year if they don't win it this year (you need 20 players like them to account for injuries to win the EPL). Giggs will have his record for most 1st division titles and Man U are lining up AM's to replace Scholes.

Both can still motor around the pitch and are offensive minded.

Some of these guys are just too stuborn for their own good and would never come to the US (Vieri, Thuram, Kahn), but I'd love to see Edgar Davids. Its a shame that his talks with Dallas fell thru
