    I don't know about Figo...
however, ESPNDeportes Radio continues to state what the Chicago paper said.

They even said that Vergara himself is the one trying to convice Zidane...
and like the paper, that Raul would be the next option if Zidane says no.

one will have to wait and see I guess.

Take this for what it's worth, it is "La Opinion" afterall. From today's(4/11/07) paper.

    http://www.laopinion.com/archivo/in...ATEd13=&BOOLp00=deportes&SORT_MODE=Relevancia

For goodness sake, let this be the first time "La Opinion" reports something credible!!! It states the DP is currently playing so it has to be a player other than Zidane.....again, if this report is legit.

why do they conitnue to put the horse before the cart? we don't own a DP allocation right now, why work on signing a player w/o a allocation for him?

    Hehehe!
Leave it to Vergara to come up with a response to that..
something along the lines of.... we traded a DP spot for Guevara to replace... say Loquito/Palencia,

Now with all the money that was free from them two we going to get a player in which we will pay him the maximum allowable and that is still within the guidelines.

You think the league would say NO to Chivas if they can lure a big name player into the League?
we would just get penalized for say... future considerations.:D

Exactly!! Don't forget that aside from Loquito and Palencia's big salaries, we also no longer have Ramon and John O'brien's. MLS rules are and have never been solid, time and time again they have been compromised to accomodate certain clubs, especially for the Gals.

The fact we don't have a DP spot shouldn't even be an issue.
Even before that rule was established, we had some pretty big salaries on payroll that I thought would've raised some eyebrows, but in the end they didn't.

Now they're gone and we're free to get pretty much anyone with all the money those guys left behind.

This will probably be delayed until Beckham and el jorobas complete their transfers.

I know that on one list the Washington Post put out... Paco had the highest MLS Salary. Which in my eyes was a waist since he wasn't showing it on the field at the time.

I don't see Ramon and JOB's salaries being so high that they consume a large portion of the overall salary. But the free space does enable us to make a big signing. And with the "bend over and take it" approach the gals used with Becks (ooopppssss there goes another kitten) we can lure a player here with sales commission and royalties.

    ESPN Deportes Radio:
is reporting that Chivas is negotiating with the Wizards for the DP slot!
so that takes care of the DP availability problem...

Now, lets see if the announcement is done before the April 15th cut off date!

I doubt that, KC would need that DP slot for EJ next season. Considering their new coach sees him as an important player I doubt they are looking to move that DP slot until after the season.

"Son dos instituciones muy distintas, sí buscamos a Zidane, sí nos sentamos con él, hemos platicado, seguimos platicando, al igual que lo ha hecho el Galaxy, seguramente nuestro planteamiento es muy distinto al suyo. Hay muchas cosas que pueden hacer distintas las opciones, los señores del Galaxy, además de que tienen muchísimo dinero, son muy capaces y muy exitosos en lo que hacen, fue maravilloso lo que lograron con Beckham.

I'm really hoping we land Zidane. It seems though, that Cue is now considering it a long shot. Also mentions other names as possible DP's if this does not pan out(Raul, Rivaldo, Roberto Carlos, Nedved, etc.) All these sound good to me, w/ the exception of Figo. Not sure how possible these really are considering they have been linked to damn near every other MLS team.

Chivas USA put a bid for RAUL However, Madrid will only let go of him if they sign Ronaldo which is most likely not going to happen since CR just signed an extension with MAN U! We'll see what happens when La Liga is over!

Today during the Boca-River game, Max Bretos strongly suggested that Barros-Schelotto would go to Chivas instead of Columbus, that it would be a better fit for him. B.S. was shown quite a bit during the pregame show and it was really implied that Boca were saying goodby to him, that this was his last Classico. However, B.S. himself supposedly refused to answer whether or not he was going to MLS, saying he "only wanted to talk about the SuperClassico."

They "openly declined"? Could you give me a reference on this? Cause I must have missed it.

“They’re got a great team and their coach is doing a great job. Quite frankly, we told them that we would give them the financial ability to do that (sign a DP) because we’re working on a new stadium down there but they’ve been pretty adamant that they like the cards that they’ve been dealt,” Leiweke said. “They’re going to stick with that team and that team is proving in this latest competition that it’s a good decision. So we don’t worry about the Dynamo.”

    Revs
No need for a formal statement from the FO as the Krafts have never been willing to open up the checkbook for their own players let alone a DP.

    Columbus
I'm sure I'm not the only one completely suprised by the imminent signing of Schelotto....to Columbus atleast. Pleasantly surprised. I really hope this pans out for our(MLS) first team w/ a SSS.

MLS bends for Los Angeles and New York. I wish will stop with all these retarded rules, Chivas had like 4 or 5 players on DP salary, yet, let Chivas continue without a problem. Now, there's this hype in the league, they're putting more retrictions. MLS should get together with owners agree with DP and SI, both DP and SI should be the samething, focus more on quality of the foreigner. If the teams could bring high class foreign and get sponsor to part of the bill, there shouldn't be problem if they don't brake number of SI rule.

Now DC and Wizard mightnot use the DP, Chivas could trade for both. One for speedy crafty forward la Ronaldo or Saviola, another someone for the back, maybe like Samuel or Cordoba.

Ehh kinda, not really I guess. Zidane is still being talked, but that might be because he would not be a transfer. I'm sure they could bend the rules.

I can guarantee you that if the DP usage raises attendance this season (and I mean real, paid attendance) that the league will allow each team to sign 2 DPs. This way NY can prepare for the opening of their new stadium with a bang. LA doesn't have to worry about Donovan, KC doesn't have to worry about EJ, and Dallas doesn't have to worry about Ruiz.
