Depends on whether you are traveling with some special. If you are I highly recommend driving up to Wine Country....Napa & Sonoma. Here are the better places to catch: > In Napa...I like the Sterling Vineyards...for the views. Upgrade on the tasting....so you get the Reserves. > Napa also has some of the most famous high-end restaurants in the U.S., including the French Laundry...which has been considered the best restaurant in the country on several occassions. (Make an appointment yesterday...and save up) > In Sonoma...I like Sonoma Square...there are good little restaurants & cheese shops all around. Plenty of great wineries including one that used to be owned by a mobster...its a very cool site. > Up the road in the Russian River area...I like the Korbel site. The best of the free tastings...and an interesting tour. Keep going towards Guerneville (very colorful place)...where you will find Armstrong Woods, a very nice Redwood Forest.
www.bayinsider.com, San Fran does not sleep! Here's another link to haps in the Bay, http://www.sfgate.com/eguide/ Also, Chinese New Year's Parade is this sat and sunday.(losta asian booty running around the City)
There are many thing to see in San Francisco I would recommend the following. Drive down and a walk up Lombard Street. Visit the Japanese Tea Garden and the Conservatory of the Flowers in Golden Gate Park. Spend time in the park too. It's one of the great urban parks in the US. Nicer than Central Park in my view. Take a trolley car ride, visit the trolley museum located in the cable car barn and powerhouse. Visit Coit Tower for views of the city Visit Fishermans Wharf just for having seen it, but spend time in the Cannery and Ghiardelli Square two of the first adaptive reuse projects in the USA. A trip to Alcatraz, the rock. Visit Nob Hill and check out the Top of the Mark and the Crown Room for a drink and some great views of the City. Visit Chinatown Drive across the Golden Gate Bridge and visit Sausalito and the surrounding towns like Mill Valley and Tiburon Visit Muir Woods National Monument for the Pacific Coast Redwoods Visit the Napa Valley if you love beautiful scenery and wine Visit Monterey and the Monterey Aquarium While there also visit Point Lobos and the Carmel Mission
or, rent a bike and ride over the bridge to sausalito. ride back if you think you can make it up the hill or hop on the ferry.
Either that or do what I did and run it. IMNSHO you lose alot of the experience of the GG Bridge if you simply just drive it. You just have to dodge alot of tourists. Man I wish I could get back there. Too bad you ain't going the same time as the Exotic Erotic Ball.
Might I suggest a hotel? http://www.hotelboheme.com/ My wife and I have stayed there four or five times. It's in a great part of the city, just north of Chinatown in the North Beach section. You can walk to Chinatown, Coit Tower and Fisherman's Wharf from the hotel.
I'm thinking about San Francisco in early June. Are there any resturants anybody recomends? Hotels? Bars? places to avoid? Any input would be great.
This is a good thread https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=208360&highlight=San+Francisco In regards to restaurants, recently I've been to Le Colonial - outstanding, but really pricey. The Chilean sea bass steamed in banana leaf was just crazy good. It's in the Nob Hill/Union Square area. Oola - Fantastic French/American Bistro style on Folsom in SOMA (South Of MArket st). I really liked this place. They have a Foie Gras/Chicken ravioli that's served with a golden truffle sauce that I still have dreams about. La Provence - French restaurant in the Mission (yea). Well worth it, and you should check out the Mission anyways. Check Yelp.com for reviews and ideas. Here's my yelp reviews, if you trust me. http://www.yelp.com/user_details?userid=KO8Ztj2bimp9dijKwmg1xw Are you looking for touristy stuff, or hardcore local drinking/eating/social stuff?
A little bit of both, more so the toursity things this time around since it will be my first time in San Francisco. You know, maybe check out the Full House home(J/K). I will have to check out the restaurants you recomended, Oola looks real good. Thanks for the help.
The Painted Ladies house is right in front Alamo Square park. Go down there and then walk to the Mad Dog In The Fog soccer bar on Haight and Fillmore. It's about five minutes away.
