You may be dead correct, but I think to the general poster they are nice to haves. Especially compared to the Soccer is Like Sushi thread in Soccer in the USA.

    Ancient Italian secret! :)

Hehehe! Actually, I used to be an NASL Quakes fan forever.........My favorite teams growing up were everyone, except maybe the Oakland Stompers becuase they were so close to San Jose. They didn't last that long so that was good.
My cousin played for the Quakes in 1986 & 1988 after the NASL folded and I got to meet Peter Bridgewater the Quakes & Whitecaps former NASL GM & thefirst SJ CLASH MLS GM.

Its funny after all these years, these players are still very vivid in the hearts and minds of soccer fans........I have some more pics so I'll try and post as many as I can....ciao for now!

Man that was a nice stroll down memory lane. Great pictures Flavo! And as far as NASL/MLS debate goes if it weren't for the former league laying the ground work for soccer in this country the game would be just a footnote in the amercan sports landscape.

I posted this in the NY COSMOS thread also but becuase he pretty much made the NASL, I figured it deserved a mention here also:
This picture was superimposed with a picture of a packed Giants Stadium in the back ground when Pele made his famous speech (LOVE , LOVE, LOVE!) right before he played his last match Cosmos vs. Santos where he played a half for each side.

Canadian NASL legends Wes McLeod of the Tampa Bay Rowdies (left) and Vancouver Whitecaps Carl Valentine battle for the ball before a sellout crowd during Soccer Bowl '79 at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. McLeod will be one of several NASL alumni participating in next month's NASL reunion game in Dallas.

Some of these were posted in the what happened to the NASL? thread. However, I've since been granted the liberty and/or permission to post them here also....
    Enjoy!

Here is a picture of Pele (NY COSMOS) & Bobby Moore (the San Antonio Thunder). This picture was taken at the Bicentennial Cup of 1976. The USA fielded a team of overage NASL stars against the national teams of Italy, Brazil & England. The scores were 4-0, 2-0 & 3-1, respectively. I believe but am not sure that Giorgio Chinaglia scored the loan goal for the USA based team.
