As a High school senior currently applying to universities, i was wondering what kind of job requires people with International Relations/Studies degrees.Think Tanks? Diplomacy? can anyone help me out?
It will depend on your concentration. My concentration was Asia. So most of my friends worked for firms that does business in Asia... basically, every big company in the world.
Takkie, I run the IS program at the University of Idaho. If you want to talk at length about which direction you might take, PM me and we can figure out the best way to visit. Essentially, Escape Goat's answer is a good one, so we can visit about the kinds of programs available at various schools.
Well, some companies that does business in the Middle East might hire you. For example, an oil company such as Halliburton.
Diplomacy, foreign policy analysis, international organizations, global development, and international relations theory. Explore and debate global economies, societies and cultures. possibilities are endless with an International relations degree.
I'm currently in the midst of completeing a bachelors in international relations. There is no set focus but I've taken more classes focusing on Europe - Russia in particular. I've talked with a lot of advisors and I still don't quite know what direction to take after graduate school. A job with the United Nations was always one of my options but thats a long shot. There are various non-governmental and private institutions/think tanks doing IR work that one can consider as well.
Russian is not an easy language to learn; I'd advise you to start ASAP - it only gets harder with age.
In a globalized economy?? "Fries" for an IR major? That's for Art History, Egyptology and Classics (Ancient Greek, Latin, etc.).
If you want a career out of the IR field, you must speak a foreign language. And try to study aboard for a semester or two. It looks good on your resume.
Very true, but let me add a bit of advice. 1. Find someone you are sexually attracted to who speaks the language you'd like to learn, 2. become enamored with the person, so much so you "need" to learn their language, 3. have lots of sex and speak said language in no time. It is fool proof, unless you are so much of a fool that it happens to fool you, then its not so fool proof.
See, that wouldn't be so difficult. My school is filled with Russian girls...most are models, or look like models. I doubt I could discuss Chernishevsky with any of them though, lol.
Exactly, they're walking around in seemingly expensive leather boots, Armani and Guic handbags and jewlery that would make Mr. T proud. very stuck up those girls....
In my mind, these aren't the type of women one would be wanting to data anyway; however, you might be underestimating the power of learning a couple of Russian phrases like these,"Hello, my name is_____. What is yours? I think Russian is a very beatiful language. Can you help me learn some?" If skin and bone rich (or atleast posing to be rich) Russian models is your thing, I think this is worth a shot.
Not all of these products are created equally, especially in NY. Even though they are stuck up (a synonym for won't sleep with you) if you follow my advice above I think you'll be alright. Assuming you aren't a troll, but I guess trolls can be charming too, right?
