Sounds about right for a ligament pull. That means he'll be back in training for the last month of the La Liga season before moving to LA. Such a shame, he was really starting to put together a nice string of performances. Oh well...he better be 100%, or close to it, by July 31st so we don't get screwed out of our only Beckham appearance in Dallas.

it was mostly a point I was making on the Chicago board in a thread called "interest grows (for Beckham)" I think. and the point hasn't been exactly made yet, but it's basically that what with the MLS building him up and making people buy five games just to see him, there's a real chance of a huge backfire if he were to be injured. I'd expect people to be angry at having been made to buy a ton of tickets, and the media to laugh at MLS, and just in general for it to be a big catastrophic mess. some people don't agree, saying "sports fans know that there's a risk of injury, sports fans won't be mad." but are these the same sports fans (American sports fans) who already say that soccer players are pansies? clearly not everyone is inclined to be forgiving of the MLS should something happen.

my other point is that I just don't believe in this notion of having one big-name signing that makes a disproportionate amount of money. I just don't think it's likely to ever work out, whether because of less-than-anticipated performance, injury, or whatever.

I completely agree, Parrot.....I made the same point when I heard about the FCD 5-game plan deal. They are taking a risk selling one player. If they wanted to increase the single game price for that game...fine...no biggie. But they went a step further and they now risk angering customers (not just customers, but NEW customers) before they even get to see the product. That's just bad business, IMO. They were greedy and they 'might' pay for that greed.

    Txgtr,
Did you mean to say that MLS was greedy or FCD for the five game deal? It could have been mandated byt the league to keep all teams in line... just asking.

I think it's a league thing, yeah. that many separate MLS teams can't have independently arrived at such a... disagreeable scheme.

"His contract with Real Madrid ends June 30, and the Galaxy expect he will join the team in August." but the Becks Frisco tour was scheduled for 31JUL07! What gives?

I don't know if it was mandated by the league or not. There is supposed to be autonomy in regards to team ops, so the league can't really mandate that sort of thing. I think they got together (the indivduals FO's) and figured this was the best way to "soak" the most $$$ out of Beckham. They all copy each other's ticket promos and marketing ideas anyway.

No, they didn't independently all arrive at the same idea, one guy did and the rest copied it because it seemed like such a great way to turn one sellout into five. Nevermind that a lot of those people will just skip the other 4 games, at least they can claim sellouts.

(*shakes head in frustration*) The carelessness of the media is driving me nutz.

July 31 is expected to be Beckham's first game for LA against an MLS side. It makes no sense whatsoever for Beckham to not play in one of the MLS venues - from a league perspective, adidas perspective, etc. And we've been told that we didn't get a regular season Beckham game because we were getting the Beckham SuperLiga game.

My take? It is the media being careless with dates. The difference between August and July 31 is what? A day.
