So last year's thread ended up being pretty short lived due to both LA and NE choking on the road in Costa Rica. But this year hopefully MLS sides will figure out a way to get further.

We all know the score in this tournament. MLS sides are the only teams not in season of the final 8, and wont be for at least another 6 weeks. Thus, we are behind the 8-ball from the start...even more so than usual because of an earlier start due to the Gold Cup this summer.

Pretty shocking result in the first match, as W Connection had their GK red-carded in the 20th minute, but still went on to beat their Mexican visitors 2-1!

    It was a shock.
this only proves that anything can and will happen in a soccer field., and should give confidence to DC and the Dynamo.

I think that rather than give them confidence it should be a reality check that they really need to focus on preperation for this tourney.

[straight face]I think by BigSoccer logic this is a clear indication that the T&T league is better than the Mexican league and that the T&T team is better than everyone Chivas beat in the past year... [/straight face]

Don't be too shocked by this result. After all, the game was played in Trinidad with the second leg to be played in Mexico. Now, if the Trinidad team should go into Mexico and pull off a draw that would be the real shocker! I remember just a couple years ago when DC played Pumas to a draw at home and then got waxed in Mexico City. Don't read anything into first leg results unless the away team wins or the home teams pulls off a 3 or 4 goal advantage.

Would be nice wouldn't it? It would surely encourage those on the fence about purchasing MLStv online streaming packages.

I see now that they have again postponed the Chivas - W Connection match due to the Arsenal v Bolton FA Cup match going into extra time. So now they are saying it will be on at 11pm eastern time..

I hope the other matches don't have this problem.

Re: 2007 CONCACAF Champions Cup (MLS Edition)

Unlike previous two years, MLS sides will play the first leg away, which is a slight advanatge. The last 2 years our opponents would play the first leg here and bunker in order to play the deciding game at home on level terms.

I am slightly concerned about the first round matchups. First DC under went some big changes in the coaching department and will play their first real game next week without a single player thus far this pre-season tested under 90 minutes. They do have some good fortune though as Boswell, Namoff, Caroll, and Gros have all been in national team camps since the begining of 2007. But its the other guys that worry me, Olsen, Moreno, Gomez, and co. Will they be ready enough to play an important match in Central America? Has DC stuck to its word to "take preseason training seriously"?

Olimpia may be a rotten league form right now, but, they are in league form. Having played weeks of competitve matches they are certianly even in their poor form more ready and able to play a hard fought 90. Can DC hold them away and use that extra week after to put on a polished display at home?
The difference maker could be their new forward they poached from Olimpia.

Houston i think has a more difficult opponent, but also the better MLS team. They are a remarkabley stable franchise in terms of roster and style. They had many players in national team camp in Clark, Mullan, Robinsion. They also return a formidable first XI. The big question for them is are they ready to play? I think a fully fit and in form Houston side can be more than enough for even the top teams in this event to handle. Like DC i think they need to weather the strom away in the first leg and come away with a scoreline that can be attainable to advance at home after they get another week to prepare. Hopefully CHing will be able to play, as his size and aerial ability should be a handful for the costa ricans who are not used to dealing with big physical and aerial presences inside thier 18.

I was actually impressed with W Connexion last night. They have some solid players, and their backup 20 year old GK stepped right in and kept the doors mostly shut while the team found a way to get 2 past. Nice game. Only in soccer does a game happen like that.

I'm looking forward to seeing the return leg of this one.

I was as well. I didn't watch the entire match, but they looked good, and perhaps the score would have even been more in the favor had they converted a golden chance off a counter-attack in the 3rd minute.

Never-the-less, brilliant second goal in the 86th minute!
