How many spots are still left open for the trials March 2-4, I just got back from the LAG's trials and made the final 25 before they picked Merlin and Fortes. I would love to get down to Charleston and show well. I know Blackbaud is beautiful as I played there my freshman season at UNC Greensboro in the conference tournament.

There are only 25 slots for each trial and I would think they may all be filled. But try contacting Jess McAnnar, fax (843) 856-6958 or email to Jess.McAnnar@CharlestonBattery.com. There is an application and fee invovled but it covers food and hotel. (got to get your own transportation)

    Player trials announced

    good luck

I certainly don't doubt Mikey because he seems to be as informed as anyone about the Battery. However, I have a feeling that an opening would "appear" for a player with credentials at a position the Battery needs to fill, which currently is in the midfield and forward, IMHO. What is your position?

I prefer forward which I played at UNCG, I can also play wide midfield or center midfield which I played all 3 at the LAG's trials. I would love to be a part of the battery's squad, it would be an honor to play at Blackbaud in front of such loyal fans.........

I went to the Battery had there second set of trials which was really a combination of two sets since the Feb on had to be postponed. There were about 40-50 players divided into four teams. Yellow 1 and Yellow 2 and Black 1 and Black 2. He are the ones that impressed me the most.

Aaron King. FOR waived by Colorado; a big holding forward type. Did pretty good

Jamie Holmes FOR was on the New England Rev squad last year. Again a big holding forward type. He scored a couple on the Sat match and looked good on the Sunday one. Reminded me of McBride in his tenacity and not going down when he probably could have gotten a foul.

These two guys were on the same team and I would like to have seen how they worked with another forward. I think the fact that they both stood out and are both big center forwards says something.

Ian Bennet MID our draft pick. Did well on the right wing fast with the ball at his feet and has good control of the ball. He took some corners that were too good but had a few good crosses.

Ruben Risco. MID Pretty fancy foot work and was all over the midfield. Would like to see more of him

Lee Sandwina DEF good defender. Read the game well and didn’t see him lose any balls.

Louie Rolko MID not sure why I liked him. A lot of the balls came through him in midfield and he seem to handle pressure well as well as control of the ball. Something about him looked like he had potential.

Jason Cudjoe FOR looked like Gavin Gavin’s brother. Same size and built; liked to battle for the ball as well.

David Kenga FOR played almost a left forward or wide on the left Mid. didn’t really stand out on the Sat match but picked up on the Sunday match. Had some good chance at goal

There were a few others that looked pretty good too. Troy Pickney, Adam Combs, Tyler Kettering, Miguel Martinez to name few. There were players from England, Africa, the Carribean islands, Central America across the US and some local boys too.

If he has, it hasn't been announced. But our PR department likes to stretch out the announcements so the club has "new" press releases coming out every few days leading up to the season opening. I heard we've already signed one of our draftees and that hasn't been announced yet either.

You really can not fault the Battery for the lack of signing news. I know that it takes three weeks to a month after a signing occurs before they can release the information. One week for the contract to reach the league office, two weeks for approval, and one week for the info to get returned back to the team. It is a slow process.

hey this is jamie holmes and i wanted to say thanks for all the good things that you had to say about my play at the trial. I really liked all the facilities, coaches, and charleston overall. Much better then when i was with the revs. Unfortunately the coach said that they really liked me and played well they were not going to be able to offer me a contract because they only want to carry 4 strikers.

Ian Fuller is the only official forward on the roster, so that leaves 3. Maybe the front office is holding back some signings for PR purposes. Vasquez?

Andrew told me the other night, that they can't announce a signing, until all of the "t"s are crossed and the "i"s are dotted, plus the ink has to be dry too or they will get fined by the powers that be.

I think with a bit more time with his teammates and some good coaching and tutilage, he could be a good midfielder. I think Mid might be the hardest position to impress at and he caught my eye out of th 40+ prospects.

A year or two in the USL might just be what the proverbial doctor ordered.

Mad me kind of courious too. I know there is a couple players in the wings, a jamician that I cant get any info on:( I know they are looking at a couple of Argentinians from there trip (one Frward, a mid and a defender) Not sure how they are going to pan out though.

so with those two in mind there must be at least one Forward player they are looking at.

Glad to hear Rolko impressed. He played at the same college my sister played at- they both finished their collegiate careers this past fall.
