Why would you be happy with that group, Chile and Mexico would win it. But USA and Mexico in the same group will not happen so forget about it.

You guys - An ALTERNATE USA team just beat Mexicos "A" team 2-0. The US is a tough opponent and at times better then Mexico.

Yeah, it's good to emphasize that point. I do believe pretty much every CONMEBOL member is capable of beating USA but underestimating them would be a mistake.

Chile- Probably but let see if you can get past EEUU. They are actually a pretty good team with growing talent.

    Mexico- Pfft.

    EEUU- Peru vs EEUU

That is the match I want to see actually.

What's the record between Peru and Mexico in the last 6 years? I was under the impression that you guys had a decent record against them. I can totally see Peru beating Mexico again with an inspired performace (with Farfan, Nol, et al).

The USA, to me, is a big question mark. Not because I don't know how they play but mostly because I don't know how South American teams would react to their style. As far as I remember the US had played Ecuador and Venezuela in the last few years... hardly a representative of all the teams in CONMEBOL.

    The thing is people

Two third place teams make it to the second round.

One win and you are basically in.

Its futile to debate who makes it to the second round without knowing which players will actually go.

Right now our record against USA is 2-0-2

Plus I have the feeling of Hugo Sanchez "cagando" in the copa america. I just wonder if he was just trying out the players or really gonna use a team with Borgetti and Blanco.

    VIVA PERU!

Actually Peru does have a decent record . But the times they played each othe are few. And I doubt we can lose once our team get things straight.

You didn't? Are you sure? No McBride, Beasley, Keller, Reyna, Gooch, Demerit, Specter, Bocanegra ect. ect. ect. Only 4 Euro's and Landon the rest was a "B-C " team from MLS. Not to mention that a good number of people who got playing time had 2 or less caps.

I hope he was looking if he was going to field the old players, I bet he's looking at that through the 5 friendlies he's hoping to have. If not, he might use some young power. Whatever he fields, as long as he wins some games :p.

I thought Mcbride retired from NT? Tim Howard clearly is the replacement of Keller , I thought Reyna retired ? Beasley isn't on top of his form. Gooch was missing and this makes the U.S B team? I may be wrong about Reyna and Mcbride retiring though.

No you are right about them retiring, but players like Borgetti and Blanco should retire so you can blood more youngsters because they will not make it through the next WC cycle so it was pointless to play them. My point, was that our traditional "A" team has stepped aside to let the next generations of unknowns (that played on Wednesday) a chance to develop.

Don't take me as a crazy Yank Mexico hater or anything I just wanted to make that point.

I don't know how reliable the espn radio are but I remember them saying that Brazil and Mexico are pretty much givens to be in the same group as well as Argentina and the US.

I think McBride and Reyna retired from int. play, no? I think Keller did, too, as well, but I am not too sure; however, otherwise, I would consider this US team a B+ maybe A- team, but definitely not their best repertoire. Also, Bocanegra did play (alongside Conrad) as one of the CBs.

colombia is sending their qualifier team :) think for alot of them will be the last time they will use our uniforms cause some are very old...

which is good news so we actually preform well.. hope more teams follow suit so taht this tournie can actually be fun. Im tired of all this B- olympic team sh1t...

mexico always comes with guns blazing which I love about them, and Hugo sanchez seems like he will be an amazing coach... hope we follow suit and have Pibe be our coach in the future

Suarez always calls the same team he did for the WC so that doesnt seem like it will be a problem...

who else is bring their best players?? Uruguay did it in Peru hope they do it again also

This Copa America is going to be great!

Colombia is sending their full team, Chile is sending full team, Mexico always does, Venezuela is the host so they will go all guns blazing, Uruguay probably will as well.

Any news about Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru and Argentina?

I know USA will send a B team (bad idea) and Brazil might send the olympic team (no way they win the Copa with that team)

I think Bolivia will send their best available players (hopefully).
About Argentina: I read that Basile wants to send a semi-European squad but with a lot of locally-based players.

    1) I don't think Bolivia has much of a choice.
    2) I'd rather face a full Argentinian Europe side then a mix. Their local league always have players that are hungry for a spot in the final WCQ -- I thin it would be a much more agressive side with a mix of players..ouch

Keller didn't retire, and Hehmeman (spelling) also wasn't called up. I mixed up Cherundelo and Bocanegra sorry about that. I admitted already said that McBride and Reyna retired in a later post.

Edit: Wow you beat me to it sidspaceman, before I could fix that. Too much homework for me today.
