Re: Zidane In NY, threads merged. I've heard much of the same that has already been stated. If he is signed by New York it would be amazing... the price I paid for season tickets will be a bargain if he's on the field.
Re: Zidane In NY, threads merged. I think your comment about spike lee thinking that there are not enough blacks in US Soccer is a bit outrageous. What about Eddie Johnson, DeMarcus Beasley, Oguchi Oneywu? I think US Soccer is the most diverse team out of all the sports. There are hispanics, blacks, and whites. Now we need to get more asians (Lee Nguyen). Spike can root for whom he wants (that's his choice) but to say he roots for Brazil instead of US because of not enough blacks on the team is a bit outrageous. I think US Soccer represents the BEST USA has no matter what color of the skin and as a soccer fan that is what I would like to see. After all Freddy Adu is one of the highest paid US players inside of the US. Let's be fair! Spike should first learn about US Soccer and Soccer in general before stating stuff like that.
Re: Zidane In NY, threads merged. NO, race should not be an issue, neither diversity. If you are the BEST you get on the US Nats. Period. I dont hear spike lee complaining because the US Nat basketball team is all black. Wtf, what a racist comment from Spike Lee. We are americans period.
Re: Zidane In NY, threads merged. Before we tar and feather Spike Lee based on hearsay does anyone have any confirmation that he has actually said this. It smells a bit like and urban legend. Link?
Re: Zidane In NY, threads merged. Spike made no comment. Did you see any quotes? Where's your source? Kaiser made an idiotic assumption. End of story, don't get your underoos in a bunch. The US Soccer team is as diverse as it can be. I actually found an interesting article about "diversity" in US soccer, which mentions Spike Lee and Sunil Gulati bumping into each other at the World Cup. It's a good read, check it out: http://www.thevillager.com/villager_178/ussoccerprez.html
Re: Zidane In NY, threads merged. What, do research before jumping off on assumptions and rumors? Are you crazy?
Re: Zidane In NY, threads merged. Ignoramus thing to say. But there is a photo on my dresser with Spike Lee and Thierry Henry courtside at a knicks game. Shares dresser space with my parents.
Re: Zidane In NY, threads merged. Spike is a Brazil/Arsenal fan (aka - Front Runner). http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/060616/1/7pm7.html
Re: Zidane In NY, threads merged. While having lunch at home today I saw a report on SkySports stating Zidane is in fact in talks with RBNY. Whether it is bogus or not, they did say it.
Re: Zidane In NY, threads merged. Pints, did they say he was having talks or that it might be a possibility? FWIW, Nick and Steve on World Soccer Daily say they received a picture from someone and that the photograph was Zidane eating at a cafe in N.Y. yesterday. I guess it is his aunt's. Don't know if any MLS officials or Red Bulls officials were there.
Re: Zidane In NY, threads merged. The Sky report is pure speculation. I don't trust British media when it comes to these things. Why would they know this was happening before Ives? If it was happening, you'd think we'd know about a month ago. I read he was asked by the Daily News if he was in town to talk to MLS folks, and he replied "No Comment" . . which I think is a sign he's sick of talking about it, because its all bunk. Word is he's going to represent France in the UEFA Futsal Championship though, and thats official. Other than that, my man is retired. However, if there is any truth to this, I will have a joyous bowel movement in my pants.
Re: Zidane In NY, threads merged. Here's my contribution to the 'get Zidane effort'. Red Bull pitches to Youri and Zidane....a Borat-type campaign in the United States. 2 Frenchman, bewildered by all the 'weird things' in the US- surviving (of course) on their mutual affection of Red Bull. Could be filmed during the year in different parts of the county This is how I would rationalize a 2m$ kick-back to Youri if he can help get Zizzou signed. A Youri kickback would increase the odds... First commercial can show Youri and Zidane at the Statue of Liberty- waxing poetically about the special French-American relationship....and then getting interrupted by rude, pushy people, the din of rap music, Spanish, etc.
Re: Zidane In NY, threads merged. The SkySports i just watched said they'd be talking about it coming up next, but of course "next" was the EPL Preview. I'll wait til I hear about it from a more reliable source before I consider getting excited about it.
Re: Zidane In NY, threads merged. This is probably exactly the same tease and "story" as last night, meaning nothing new.
Re: Zidane in the City...right now I hope Zidane left already, MLS needs good players! Wait unless we get the best crosser in the MLS and we can win on head goals! lol
Re: Zidane In NY, threads merged. Good point. He's a rare breed: A front-runner and a glutton for punishment. I mean, the man actually goes to the draft to cheer for Knicks picks. It's hilarious (and oddly admirable).
Re: Zidane In NY, threads merged. As far as I'm concerned, its another UK tabloid, just on TV, and pretty much the primary source for sports news over there. The only thing they have right is that there is "speculation" . . nothing more.
Re: Zidane In NY, threads merged. See, I remember Spike began sitting down there only when they were good. Then again, I am sure he'll start showing at Barclay's Arena to root on the Nets.
Re: Zidane In NY, threads merged. I think it's more of a coincidence. Spike started seeing serious coin right around the time the Knicks started their rise with Ewing.
Re: Zidane In NY, threads merged. I don't know I am always looking for the bright side, so I guess the fact that a Euro source Sky Sports reported possible talks could be relevant. It isn't that slow a news week, I don't know why Trekker would write a feature article on what seems to be hot smoke, but then again...
