I hope Nicaragua can develop a good program. The love for the sport seems to be there so it's a mystery that they haven't been able to field a competitive team in that country. I know that baseball is a bigger sport in Nicaragua, but Cuba seems to have managed to build a second/third tier CONCACAF team despite their baseball preference, I am curious that Nicaragua can't at least get to that level.....It's a mystery to me. But nevertheless, I hope they can make the leap in soccer... PS...I was disappointed they weren't included in the Baseball World Classic, they should've have been in there as real baseball country over some BS team like Italy or South Africa...
Honduras has 3 players in Italy ... Suazo,Alvarez, and De leon .... also Maynor Suazo plays in Turkey. Amado Guevara and Ivan Guerrero both play in the MLS.
I forgot we play you guys in UNCAF first , Good luck in February Is the NT call up yet?? I'm not sure who Guatemalan is bringing , but I assume lots of guys who are emerging onto to the International scene
The reason (in my opinion) why nicaragua can't build a good a team as compared to Cuba is that the Cuban government places a huge importance on sports. The Nicaraguan government is more preocupied with stealing money than building anything worth while. As far as Baseball, I completely agree with you. Nicaragua should have been invited but I heard rumors this year they will. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Does anyone have a good website for the Gold cup Qualifiers? I live in Germany so I get my news from you guys.
best website to get information about the GC and every other concacaf tournament: www.
Nicaragua formó a Dennis Espinoza, Manuel Quintanilla, Francisco Corrales, Hamilton West, Carlos Alonso, Silvio Avilés, Remy Vanegas, Wilson Samuel, David Solórzano, Emilio Palacios y Eaustace Martín. Los "Pinoleros" enfrentarán a su similar de Costa Rica, en el Estadio Ricardo Saprissa, a puerta cerrada y durante 120 minutos con interrupciones para que ambos técnicos puedan sacar sus conclusiones. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Nicaragua lost 6-0 to Puntarenas
Played 120 minutes but with stops.
Nicaragua's main problem is it only has 2 futbol cities, Esteli and Diriamba. Here the game is played on the streets and watched on TV by everyone in town and both teams have barras, but outside of there its mainly Baseball and Boxing. After high school I went to Real Esteli to try out and met two guys who are top players in the league now, Raul Leguias, who played with Panama's sub-17 and is at Masatepe now... http://elnuevodiario.com.ni/2006/09/15/deportes/29001 and Radel Cadero, from Bluefields(someone told me he was a theif who used to go into people's houses there). http://elnuevodiario.com.ni/2006/11/27/deportes It is unlikely they will catch Costa Rica, Honduras, or even Panama, who all have or have had world-class players playing in Italy, Spain, England, Germany and South America, but many of them should at least be able to play MLS or in other countries in Central America. http://www.geocities.com/iefanicaragua/
You are right, Soccer is definately not the popular game in Nicaragua. But Nicaraguas problems go beyond the popularity of the game. Money plays a big factor, or should I say the lack of money. I'm realistic that Nicaragua is not going to advance, but I'm hoping that it will ruin another teams day.
por lo menos terminan tercer lugar y juegan un repechaje contra panama remember 5 teams to the gold cup!
Some reports that the match against Costa Rica (0-2) was played in ordinary 2 X 45 mins . UNCAFUT website said , 120 mins (3 X40 mins) what is correct ?
2 tiempos de 45 minutos, CR scored at the end of the game, minute 88th, they were supposed to play it different but they never did
So I was reading UNCAFUT website and they mentioned that the IFFHS ranked a Nicaraguan club at 277. I was very happy when I heard that. I don't know if Nicragau has been nominated before, I went to the IFFHS website and their previous years records went back to the "top 25". Here is the aritcle. CLUB OLIMPIA HONDURAS 127 2. PUNTARENAS F.C. COSTA RICA 139 3. C.D. SAPRISSA COSTA RICA 147 4. DEP. MARQUENSE GUATEMALA 183 5. C.S.D. MUNICIPAL GUATEMALA 194 6. L.D. ALAJUELENSE COSTA RICA 209 7. C.D. VICTORIA HONDURAS 254 8. REAL ESTELI F.C. NICARAGUA 277
Nicaragua needs to start playing friendlies with other conuntries to get better. We only played Costa Rica and a first division CR team and we got our buts handed to us. We need to start doing more! I'll settle them playing the womans team, just play some body!
That`s true, most communist countries, like China and the old Soviet Republics do or did. As far as Nicaragua`s government as long as they keep electing clowns to office neither sports nor the quality of life will ever improve. Belize, although not very good either, has a more organized program and they`re already ahead.
Here are the tables... http://www.rsssf.com/tablesn/nica-intres.html Doesn`t look too good, but they did manage a draw with Haiti, who around the same time had tied Peru and beaten Ecuador 2-0, so that`s encouraging.
I just discovered this thread. My wife and i will be in Nicaraugua for about 11 days starting the 22nd of March. We always like to catch a game in the countries we are visiting. Does anybody know if there will be any league or other games during this time? We don't have a fixed schedule so we can adapt to,local events. Thanks in advance for your help.
This is better with the results also from 2005 : http://www.fifa.com/en/mens/results/resultsdetails.html
Yea, Soccer is played all year round in latin America since we don't really have a winter. Here is the schedule for "El Dirinagen" which is the team I cheer for. I'm sure this website has other teams schedule also. http://www.soccerway.com/teams/nicaragua/caciques-del-diriangn/
I appreciate it! I'll be honest, It's a good day when we don't lose by more than 5 goals. The truth is that most teams that we have actually beat only play us with their bench. Nicaragua needs to start taking this game more seriously.
