1) The Assasination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford - Internet buzz is that it's some sort of masterpiece, if the studio doesn't chop it down. An atmospheric Western, so that's two strikes right there. Hopefully Brad Pitt can help get the thing to the screen in a reasonably good form. 2) Snow Angels - David GOrdon Green's domestic drama/murder mystery has gotten the most buzz at Sundance so far. 3) Rescue Dawn - This should be Christian Bale's year, and it may start early with this performance. 4) My Blueberry Nights - Wong Kar-Wai does America! 5) Charlie Wilson's War - Tom Hanks as a drinkin' womanizin' Texas Congressman who won the 1980s Afghan War? Great book, suspect cast. 6) There Will Be Blood - Early oil industry period piece from Paul Thomas Anderson, his first film in five or so years. 7) The Golden Age - Can Cate Blanchett win two Oscars for playing the same hsitorical figure at two points in life? She takes up Elizabeth II again. Same cast and director. 8) No Country for Old Men - The Coen Brothers adapt Cormac McCarthy 9) Sweeney Todd - Depp sings! 10) 300 - The Spartan battle of Thermopylae re-imagined as a Frank Miller comic book. Looks like eye-catching CGI, if nothing else. So what am I missing? And don't say Spiderman 3 all at once!
8 -- I'm already terrified ( in a good way ). 9 -- I'm already terrified ( in a broadly theatrical good way ). 10 - I'm a guy and I'm gonna like this unless I see it with my Professor of Greek History friend who will no doubt ruin it for me.
Does the world need another movie about the queen? While I am fully exercising my right to not see any of them, I just can't take their relentless onslaught I suppose one could say the same for most movies/genres, but the frequency of these queen movies lately seems a bit over the top.
Norbit, another Eddie Murphy fat-suit movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0477051/ Murphy needs a new agent....like ten years ago.
Not to be the kind of annoyingly pedantic historian who ruins movies for everyone, but I'm assuming you mean Elizabeth I. I'm personally looking forward to the Helen Mirren/Cate Blanchet duel to the death for who gets the right to queen pictures.
I am so thrilled that DGG is finally coming out with a new film. And it's his first litterary adaptation. This is definitely #1 on my list, closely followed by Bluebery Nights.
Outside the USA, L'Age des tenebres, the sequel to the Babarian Invasions (winner of an best foreign Oscar) and The Decline of the American Empire (nominated for an Oscar), is scheduled for this year. Quite a challenge for Denys Arcand to beat the last one which won an Oscar, a Cesar (best film) and a prize at Cannes (best actress).
Not seeing Tom Hanks as Charlie Wilson at all, though oddly enough, I can see Julia Roberts as Joanne Herring. - PSH as Gust Avrakatos? With a fake mustache and a lot of hair dye, I guess. - Amy Adams and Shiri Appleby as... something? I'm sold.
and the thirds: spider-man, ocean's 11 and shrek. all should (hopefully) be fun movies, though ocean's has a lot to make up for.
300 looks fantastic. But after the craptastic Sky Captain and Sin City, I'm feeling like the CGI gimmickry could give us a three-time loser.
Once Sky Captain fully succombed to the pulp inspiration and had a mini elephant in a jar, I was hooked. It wasn't great, but it was fun. Spiderman is the next film I'm really looking forward to, although I don't know too much about what's coming out when.
Isn't there a Transformers movie coming out? If so, I think we can all agree it will be the best movie of 2007
Have you seen the trailer? I think we can all, well, all of us except Michael Bay, his family, friends and fans, can agree that it's not.
Yeah, I was being sarcastic. I don't really understand exactly what demographic they're shooting for either. People old enough to remember the show no longer care, and it doesn't look good enough to attract 'new' fans. Besides, for what it's worth, Beast Wars > Transformers.
Does anyone else wanna see the movie Breach with Ryan Phillippe and Chris Cooper? It looks like it's gonna be a good one.
