Sampdoria loses 2 - 0. Three players make it off the bench for Sampdoria and Ferrari wasn't one of them.
Soccernet lists him as on the bench. Yeah, I'm pretty sure this was his first time. He's getting a chance right away. This kid sounds promising.
Gab's goal was to make the bench and get some first team minutes by the end of the year. It might say something about his talent and/or promise if he made the bench the first game he was actually eligible. I'm impressed. I don't know much about the kid but it does strike me that he might be making big strides early on for Sampdoria. We need to keep an eye on him the second half of the season. Sampdoria, while in 8th or 9th aren't too far off from a European spot, so it's not like he's breaking into a terrible, relegation bound team.
Yes, he did make the bench for this one. http://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/Squadre/Empoli/Primo_Piano/2007/01_Gennaio/21/pop_tabellino.shtml Pretty damn impressive after arriving so recently. It's going to be interesting to see how he progresses.
WTF! How did this happen, the guy was scouted and found to not even be the best kid on his high school team. Then he goes over and signs a youth deal (not even a reserves deal) from the threads i've seen here and he dresses for the first team in his first game? Any chance this was just a goodwill move and he doesn't dress again anytime soon?
that is simply amazing that he flies over, practices a few times, and gets on the bench of his first game. something's going on here. are they having an injury crisis at Sampdoria? whatever, that speaks loudly as to the opportunities he's about to have there.
Good question. Samp has four proven strikers who are all relatively healthy at the moment. Bonazzoli has been on the edge of the national team. Quagliarella is a young talent who's been spectacular this season. Flachi and Bazzani are slightly past their prime but still goal-scorers. All four of them, Bonazzoli and Bazzani in particular, have had problems with the injury bug. So Ferrari should just bide his time, sooner or later he'll get some minutes.
Its would be great to have Rossi, but thinking optimistically, Ferrari has almost 3 years to reach his current level! (Ferrari 18, Rossi 21)
ferrari will be better than rossi in 3 years...he's a promising player i saw him in a sampadoria primavera training session a few months ago. I also spoke to a few journalist and they said many good things about this kid. aswell as a younger player from america 16 yr old Bernardo, Vincenzo. He is playing with S.S.C. CALCIO NAPOLI. keep your ears open about these two american players playing in Italy.
Quagliarella is currently hot property and could very well be gone by the time the transfer window closes. It may be the case that Samp is bringing Ferrari along so quickly because they are looking for him to fill Quagliarella's role after he leaves. It's just a theory, but still....
A friend of mine who follows Samp told me that Bazzani has been absolutely awful this season, he's 'cotto'-- 'cooked.' Yet another reason why they might be bringing Ferrari along so quickly.
i'm really scratching my head about this. these players weren't even on the radar as top players on our national youth teams over here. are we missing something in the translation? is this real or are these euro teams or the players' agents pulling the wool over our eyes?
Are you comparing Euro scouts to American scouts (if there is such an official title- as a fully developed concept- here in America) or to American coaches (ala Rongen, Ellinger back with he u-17, etc...) Because at times, it'd seem our coaches are the highest profile scouts we have....and considering their tendency to go for "work rate" at youth level, that's kind of sad....
Sampdoria have a Coppa Italia match tomorrow (1/24) against Inter. Maybe he plays then. I am interested to see
Also, Sampdoria for the past two seasons always had a youngster on the bench, striker Salvatore Foti, who was 18 when he made his debut with Sampdoria last season and got some good minutes as a sub. Last week he left to go to a Serie B side (Vicenza) on loan where he's playing regularly. So Ferrari probably took his spot on the bench. So the point is Samp is not afraid to use youngsters. Also, to answer the question about reserve leagues in Italy, the U-20's Youth League, called Primavera, serves as the reserve league in Italy. If a first team player gets injured and is trying to regain his form, he is usually sent to the youth team and plays some matches there.
I don't know about this one, it's the semi-final and Sampdoria really want to get to the final and need a good performance in the first leg. He'll most likely see minutes in a Serie A fixture where Sampdoria is winning comfortably and he's put in for the last minutes.
Just wanted to say thank you to all the those with info about Sampdoria. It will be interesting to follow Ferrari's rise in Italy.
