If Twellman, or any player for that matter, wants to be taken off the radar for the National team, they should play in Norway.

Norway is the worse option for any US player.

That also includes Sweden, Finland, and Denmark.

Unless you play left back like Heath Pearce. Then we'll pay your airfare back here any time.

I agree though. Adin Brown should be in the US pool, and he's not because of where he plays. It's that simple.

Hey, look at what Odd Grenland's interest has done for the careers of Nat Borchers and Christopher Joyce. :)

I completely forgot about Nat Borchers until his name was mentioned in the article.

I hope to god he realizes that MLS>>>Norway in terms of skill. If he goes then I will lose a lot of respect for him, if the Revs even accept that bid. If he went, we'd potentially lose Twellman, Shalrie, John, Cancela, and Dempsey:(

Shalrie's bid was already denied, and John's was held up because of a transfer fee.

Is Belgium also on your list?

He's not going to make the world cup team playing in MLS or Norway. He's not going to get an offer from one of the top leagues playing in MLS.

He's also not going to make 3 times his current salary in MLS. If he could do that in Norway, he'll probably be making the right decision if he leaves.

Danny Califf also plays in Denmark and was on the field yesterday, and I suspect part of the reason Adin's fallen off the national radar is that he's got a big ol' "HEAD INJURY PRONE" sign stuck to him, but yes, in general, Scandinavia seems a one-way ticket out of the US spotlight.

I'll say it before and I'll say it again: Krafty, give this man cap-breaker status. I would rather have Twellman for a lifetime than Beckham for a year.

Where do you watch Norwegian matches? From the uefa cup matches I've seen with Molde in them, they seemed to be more organized and give up a lot less cheap turnovers than your typical MLS side. Then again, they were playing in an important match and most MLS matches aren't that important.

If you really do watch Norwegian matches, I would like to know how. Adin Brown will be in the top league again and I'd like to catch a few of his matches.

From what I've read (probably Ives' Blog), the highest cap status a non-DP player can be signed to from now on is $280,000. Sign Twellman to that plus bonuses and it's a steal, IMO. The problem is, Landy and Johnon are being grandfathered this year and Taylor will play out his last season with that pay disparity.

In general yea but I know you are going to throw one name at my face, Onyewu. But he could have made it anywhere, whether it was MLS or with Standard Liege.

For a player on the bubble moving overseas to a league that is not top 4, or to a team that is not a UEFA Cup or Champions League contender is all but saying that they withdraw their name from ever playing with the US again.

I think Twellman gets more chances with the US, and he'll be a fool to turn it down by moving to Norway. Apparently his value is only a million, which is a huge bargain in my mind.

fxt.no broadcasts every Tippeliga-match live on the web, it costs 50 NOK per ticket, or less than 7 US bucks.

I don't know how the live-quality would be over seas though, but it's possible to watch the game in replay for 24 hours after you've bought the ticket. Then it should travel alot smoother.

The quality's excellent, as I've watched a fair number of matches through TV2.no.

In the meantime, one of Norway's major dailies has picked up the Twellman story:

FWIW, Adin might not be in the USMNT picture, but he's enjoying life in Norway and has established quite a good career for himself there.

Glad to hear that TnT is negotiating an extension on his contract. He's an important asset to the MLS brand and I suspect they will come up with something (money and endorsements) that makes him confortable with staying as a Rev. Listening to Da Bruce yesterday, it's clear that he thinks TnT and Ching are the two to MLs candidates for USMNT forward.

Yikes. That's a little steep. Maybe if Brown's team could win the league on the final matchday, but I can't see myself shelling out money on a consistant basis.

You know, after a certain time, you have to realize as a professional athlete you have a very limited chance to make money. He had a good run on the USMNT the last year and still didn't make it to the World Cup. What are his chances in 2010? Not sure, but if I'm Taylor and I can triple my salary for a couple of years and still play at a high level, then I would be VERY sorely tempted. I, for one, could understand him going.

I did a little mini-edit there. It's fxt.no that broadcasts Tippeliga-matches, but it's a page run by tv2.no Anyway, good to hear the the quality is good even over seas.

I'm in agreement. As much as it would hurt my team ... he has to take care of his family and himself first and if the league's going to short change him (in regards to what he's being paid compared to other strikers that do a lot less than him) ... then he should do what's right for him.

I'm thinking that the Revs shoul start seriously considering making TNT their Designated Player.

My guess is that should he start to renegotiate with the league, the first thing he does is say, "Hey, Eddie Johnson's making $750,000/year, and I'm more productive than he is. I want at least what he's making."

How could you even argue with that if you're the league?

I agree and personally I have no problem with making him our DP. I know that is not what it is suppose to be used for but he's the best scorer in the league, period.

EJ won't be making $750,000 in 2008 because no one is stupid enough to make them their designated player.

This would be a team decision, not a league decision if they want to make him a DP. Personally, I would pay him the most they can without making him a DP.

Eddie Johnson's stock is dropping faster than Brittany Spears' knickers.
