Like a good bartender around 15 minutes before close, I cut off that last thread... I figure this could last a while... as stated in the prior thread I think that Lukas Liquor's beer tasting is a great idea and had planned to go last saturday... but the weather was a banshee, so i didn't go... i have the schedule on my fridge of upcoming tastings... looking forward to it... I will try to post it later...
I don't know if they have beer tasting every weekend. They do have the attached "sampling" room for wine & spirits. I did pick out 6 beers from their "Build your own 6-pack".
While we're on the subject of beer tastings ... one of the greatest experiences in my life was going to a tasting at a restaurant in Philadelphia where they had a five course meal and Samuel Adams Brewing provided a beer that complemented each course. Those were days ...
One cold Zima, Two cold Zima, Three cold Zima, Floor. The official mantra of my girlfriend. First page.
Purple Passion is a good elixer for that too. Kinda shows the generation separation of the Spanish Fly we all used. For Rovert it was Cold Duck, Purple Passion/Wine Coolers for my generation. Zima for the now mid to late 20's. I wonder what the High Schoolers are using these days. (Ritalin, RedBull something er others)
Stu last I saw the Blind Tiger it still looked that way but I've heard they've changed it around a bit and now have pool tables and such in part of it. I unfortunately didn't get to stop by when I was home this time.
Bells is the best thing about living in Mich. right now. The porter and double cream stout make for a good winter, and two-hearted is great for warmer weather. Not a huge fan of oberon, but that is about the only one I don't consistently enjoy. At one of the nicer grocery stores here they have Hop Slam and also a barley wine one that I want to try asap but they were both out of stock when I was there.
As a Hy-Vee customer for the last 30 years, they do a lot of tasting - particularly on Saturdays. Sometimes it's beer or wine, but more often it's something like ice cream, meat or fish, or yogurt. I also try to avoid shopping on Saturdays, so they may have changed.
I went to Gomers last weekend and walked up on a case of 2 pint bottles of some Belgian Ale just laying open on the floor. It was amazing! I only hope they start carrying it all the time. I was worried about it at $11 per bottle, but it was more than worth it. I can't remember the name, but I'll get it again and pass it on.
I had a Bell's porter last night. I'm also with you on the Oberon...not huge on it (and I really like wheaty, spiced summer beers) and I really hate the label. I really do like their beer, though. Unfortunatly, they run a lot like the Rouge beers, 6 packs in the $9-14 range. That's a little steep for me to do but every once in a great while. Is Bells cheaper up north?
So, I looked at my rep today and noticed that yesterday some guy named ChicagoAzzuri left me some very peculiar postive rep: The really funny thing is I was part of the beer discussion and he wasn't. Interesting. Oh well, what can you expect from someone with 0.62 posts a day?
That's the guy that neg repped me for telling all the people that thought we were gone to F off when the sale was announced. I posted that he had neg repped me for that and then Andy Mead I believe posted the guys profile link for a pile on of neg rep, I assume you were one of the people that neg repped him and he's just getting you back for it.
I haven't bought a six pack of bells in awhile but I don't think it's that expensive here in Indy. I could be wrong though it's been awhile.
I host beer tastings at my place (Bentley's Public House and Nano-Brewery) about once a month. If I can figure out how to handle more people I'd love to have more involved but for now it gets congested anytime we have over about 15 people.
So your saying you've been holding out on us. You know in High School, we just used the back yard and called it a keg party.
Well, if you want a kegger that's different from a beer tasting...not sure how much you taste doing a keg stand.
Nah.. Stu is much classier than that. Drinking with our pinkies out, discussing the latest gossip from the yacht club in fake english accents & whatnot.
Exactly. And the first person who mentions macro beers is made to sit in the corner and say "I will not drink cat p!$$" over and over until his time-out is over. The beer tastings also never include off-color jokes, excessive drinking or discussions of soccer. Oh wait, no, it includes all of those.
