Interesting move by Toronto, and a potentially good one. You can't buy a single game ticket to whenever the Galaxy game in Toronto is - you have to by tickets to 3 other games as well.

Wonder if we will see more teams try this approach?

Actually a great idea..Who's the brains behind that!!???

We should do the same..You can only buy a Galaxy game if you buy 2 or 3 US Open CUP games..and PLAY THEM AT GILLETTE!!

This approach has been used by AEG before. I also think RBNY did it for the Barca game. It probably helps the bottom line, but it highly discourages people coming from long distances to see one game. MLS can claim more tickets sold, but a lot don't show up for the regular MLS games they had to buy tickets for.

Several people I know that you may discribe as eurosnobs are turned off by this approach. It's sort of old school "bait and switch".

Jonathan Kraft did an interview this morning on The Hillman Morning Show on WAAF, its available as a podcast through iTunes. He discusses the Beckham deal and its impact on MLS, attendance, and also mentions the need for a stadium (though no specifics). Unfortunately about 3/4s of the way through the interview it turns into Pats-Chargers talk.

Anything to Eurosnobs are against, I'm all for. :)

Will Dempsey have a song out with Dizzee Rascal before year's end?

It's also pretty common for small market major league baseball teams. To get a ticket when the Yankees come to town you need to buy some tickets for less attractive games. I talked to a guy from the White Sox about it and he said it (1) raises the price for the really attractive games closer to market prices and (2) hopefully convinces more fans to come to other games and form an attachment to the team.

I'm stunned it took that long.

What, for Jonathan to talk about Beckham, or for the talk to switch to th Pat's game?

    The switch to Pat's talk.

If they spent 3/4s of the interview talking soccer that's pretty remarkable.
