One minor correction. The Iranian official who visited China recently was Dr. Ali Larijani, who is the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council. (Somewhat akin to Iran's national security advisor, but more influential). Dr. Larijani is not Iran's prime minister. Indeed, under Iran's current system of government, the head of government is the president and we don't have a prime minister anymore.

You are right. As I releaze Iran has no PM anymore.

China may play a deal broker here. In one sense, Iran, as an indepedant force (not a US puppet) is vital to China's national security (not just about energy) in western side. So help Iran to hold this statu is very important in China's strategic thinking. "Lose" Iran will open the backyard of Central Asia, and open Afghanistan for a hostile force buildup, that will bring instability into both Xinjiang and Tibet.

In other sense, if USA and Iran make friends and hugging and kissing each other, it may give USA a freehand to promote China as enemy numero uno--such as pre-911 time.

I'm hoping he'll meet a nice Chinese girl and decide to stay (no offense to Mrs. Olmert).

The Chinese don’t care about Israel as long as Israel is Americas number one ally and puppet , just one day after Olmert leaves Israel the Chinese give a harsh message to the US and that’s that the Chinese are going to do business with Iran no matter what the US ( Israel ) thinks

    I disagree.

Chinese enjoyed a very special relationship with Jews. Beside few handreds of thousands Jews in China today (China recently added Jew as one of new ethnic group of Chinese people), many of important people in Israel today, such as Olmert, have specail connection with China.

Consider how influence Jews in USA, it is in China's interest to maintain such great relationship and friendship, and also use her warm relationship with Arabs, to help both sides on a fair negotiated settlement.

In current situation, China's military and economic power is still too weak to face a confrontation from USA/NATO/Japan. So she will not ignore anyone, but with voice of diplomacy and peaceful resolution.

China doesn't really have a major reason to be hostile to either side.

In many cases he's the same, but at least he talks tough and sometimes acts more for Israel's security.

Recently there was a conference hosting in Beijing with former Israel and Palestine officials. The conclusion from both sides are China should involve on the peace talk. Israeli feels that China shared her view regarding Islam militancy, and Arabs feel that China is a very objective power on the issue unlike some "other country", and even Iran feels that China shared her view of a Mid East without much "world cop" running around. Of course, that is not what USA likes to hear.

The flap side is that China has no much new ideas to offer, but at least have good relationship with everyone involved.
