The generation of Zidane, Ronaldo and other great players is coming to a close. Those big names that dominated and were synonymous with Football. Now they give way to the new generation.

I'm pretty sure these guys will be the next generation that everyone will know about and will dominate Football for a while. No doubt each of these guys is a future Fifa world player of the year.

    Lionel Messi - Barcelona/Argentina
    Cristiano Ronaldo - Manchester United/Portugal
    Matias Fernandez - Villareal/Chile
    Yoann Gourcuff - Milan/France
    Cesc Fabregas - Arsenal/Spain

Sure some of these guys are big already, but it's like Henry, he won the world cup and was in Juventus, but it wasn't till Arsenal that he become a god.

    Any I missed?

There are other highly rated players but those are the cream of the current crop. Although the likes of Evans, Pique, Simpson, Gibson, Campbell (etc) all have a great chance of coming through and hopefully they will (particularly the first two).

Kind of a reach here, but he does have very good potential and showed his ability... Anthony Stokes. He only has a half-season of playing experience and it was in the SPL, but it has to be mentioned that in a mediocre Falkirk side, as an 18 year old, with absolutely no prior senior footballing experience (well, exactly 2 minutes in the Carling Cup), by the turn of the year he was SPL top scorer with 16 goals in 18 games and dominated the young player of the month awards... iirc he picked up player of the month at some stage, too (could be wrong on that one mind).

He got sold yesterday from Arsenal to Sunderland. It's a shame he's not Antonioli Stokasha from Godknowswhere, then he probably would've been given a few games here and there by Wenger to prove himself until the summer, particularly as he is the natural goalscoring type of player they have been crying out for for quite some time. Sunderland are doing well under Keane, going from 0 points in 5 games before he came to 3 points off a playoff spot since he took over with 19 games to get there, so there is a possibility that Stokes will be in the Premiership next season where he will be have the chance to prove himself in one of the top leagues.

I am not saying he WILL be one of the greats of his generation, but there is an outside chance of him being one of the top handful of no.9's if it goes well for him, and a name known by most football fans.

I would rate Gibson and possible Simpson over Pique in terms of potential, tbh.

Notice how I started by naming defenders, then moved onto midfield and finally ended with strikers? :p

So the "(particularly the first two)" part? I'm now assuming you were referring to Rooney/Rossi there, on first read I thought you meant Evans/Pique.

Jefferson Farfan could become our best player since Teofilo Cubillas

    Van Persie - Arsenal/Holland

More technically gifted than the players you name put together.

Quality player. I hope we can continue to enjoy him for a while more here in Holland but I fear he'll be off soon.

He is very, very techincally gifted but it is assumptions like the one you write there that makes people write off your ideas at times. The technical abilities of those five put together into one single player would have the potential to make Maradona or Pele look very, very average. Are you saying that if Van Persie reaches 100% of his potential, he will go on to become the best player of all time to the extent that nobody will even deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as him?

So I'm exaggerating, shoot me! Van Persie's the most technically gifted Dutch footballer since Dennis Bergkamp, that's what all the experts and pundits in Holland believe. And being the most technically gifted Dutch footballer of a generation DOES indicate that he's pretty special. I don't know if he'll ever fulfil his potential, but the potential is definitely there.

What bugs me is that Huntelaar gets more of a mention in threads like these than Van Persie. The latter has scored for Holland in the last five subsequent games and has been brilliant for us, forcing Huntelaar (who's had a bad spell for both club and country) on the bench. For some reason Dutch young talent is rated only when they have an Ajax background, it seems.

Yes I was going to put Van Persie but I haven't watched much of him since the world cup. Though I did hear he exploded after the world cup. I also hear, Messi, C Ronaldo and Fernandez all pass and dribble better than Van Persie. And Fernandez is a better free kick taker.

Also Van Persie is pretty highly rated, maybe not as much as the other dude you mentioned in Holland, but many football pundits speak highly of Van Persie as Dutch Football's new bright light.

What are you smoking dude are you serious? What has he done? Well along with Carlos Vela they were the vital parts of the U-17 Team that won the world cup for Mexico. And for you saying that he is not going to play in the first team is absolutely stupid, there is many articles on saying Frank Rijkaard wants Dos Santos to play on the first team when the time is right.
