Watching the Fiesta Bowl right now and this stadium is simply ridiculous. Very jealous of those of you who are going

I dont know if they will be selling these tickets the day of the game , my guess is no. Talk to Palermo10 , he might have a few tickets left over that he is willing to sell.

Personally, I'm pretty excited by the score of the game at halftime.

[result]The way I see it is that any time that Oklahoma is losing, it's a good thing. Then again, I'm a die hard Penn State fan.[/result]

Interesting... I sent in my fax request early last week and haven't heard anything back from the USSF. But we all know about their fax machines. I'll send them an email to follow up.

I would say US vs Mexico is about as good as futbol atmosphere gets in this country... The crowd (on both sides) is fired up and the games always draw a big crowd. Definitely much better than a run of the mill MLS game.

You have to become a US fan now that you asked the question in here (and you live in Chicago).

I live about 7 miles north of the stadium, around the Bell & Loop-101 area.

Every restaurant imaginable in this area.

As stated earlier, a few hotels, some sports bars (McDuffy's), and a new night spot called "Skye" (don't know much about it, just recently opened).

The area right around the stadium is in it's infant stages, so not much open right now (or by match day).

If you go south to loop-101 & I-10 there are also many restaurants / stores in that area.

Got 9 tickets in section 110. First US match with my kids.

I just got in touch with the university of phoenix stadium about the 20x30 flag. They said it would be not allowed in the stadium , even though it is for the sams army section.

I emailed US soccer about this dilemna not too long ago , and this is an email i received from them today :
    Dear U.S. Soccer Fan,

We appreciate your patience as we have been following up with the
University of Phoenix Stadium regarding your request. The stadium has
provided a list of prohibited items, which I have attached to this
e-mail. We are working with the stadium to see if allowances can be
made for the 20x30 ft flag and will let you know as soon as we have any
    additional information.

Thank you again for your patience and we hope to speak with you soon!

    Best Regards,

    U.S. Soccer

Dude, you are so money on this stuff. Great work!

I got my confirmation today but I'm really confused. I paid for 15 tickets but the email told me I had the following seats in 119:

    Row 3 seats 1-12
    Row 4 seats 1-13

    uhh?

Good work, Galaxian. I have been down this road many times. For what it is worth, Soldier Field's snotty office told me the same thing, but the Baby Ass Flag was allowed in for the game against Poland in 2004. The Mexicans will be bringing lots of flags maybe not as big as the Baby Ass NC (maybe Baby Ass III), or whatever we need to call it for historic purposes, but there will be some big Mexican flags. And they should be allowed in of course.

    As I understand it....
Baby Ass Flag (sits in Soccer Hall of Fame storage, burn holes and all)
Baby Ass Flag II (in New Jersey but beat up and ready for retirement)
Baby Ass Flag III (In North Carolina and nearly new)

Unfortunately, there has been a long series of problems with something as basic as a US Flag at national team games. The Rose Bowl has been very nasty in this regard. Overseas, it has never, ever been a problem. The police inspect the big flag to see there are no political slogans on it, then wave us in. In Lyon the cop helped us carry the baby carriage while I carried the Baby Ass II.
When I called Reliant Stadium in Houston in spring 2003, they told me, after considerable delay, that the flag would be allowed in but in no case at all a baby stroller. Soldier Field is horrid when it comes to baby strollers. I got the baby into Reliant but no flag. I did not try, knowing what jerks they would be at the stadium if I came with a baby stroller, necessary to carry everything.
Good luck in Phoenix. I think you will be able to get it in!

Thanks a lot Thomas. I am going to do everything humanly possible to get that flag in . There is no way the SA section is going to be without a big ass USA flag for the first US mexico match of the year.

    The Field

As posted on the Univ Of Phoenix website...some interesting stuff... a roll out field...

    "The Field

The grass field rolls out of the stadium on a 18.9 million pound tray, residing outside of the stadium except for football and soccer events, is the first of its kind in North America.

Excavation will take field down to 26 feet below the present grade. When completed, the field will lie 39 feet below the main concourse level because 13 feet of berming will be added around the stadium.

The grass field remains outside the stadium in the sun until game day getting the maximum amount of sunshine and nourishment, eliminating humidity problems inside the stadium and providing unrestricted access to the stadium floor for events and staging.

The site has the stadium situated along a slight northwest to southeast axis for maximum sun exposure for field in the outboard position.

Having the rollout field saves $50 million in costs since it is more economical to move the field than having the entire roof retract to allow the necessary sunshine to reach the grass.

The roll out playing field weighs 17.9 million pounds and will travel at a speed of 11.5 feet/minute (1/8 mph); it will take 75 minutes to travel approximately 741 feet.

The field is 234 feet wide x 403 feet long and 39 inches tall.

Field tray rests on 13 rail tracks and moves in and out of the stadium on 542 steel wheel assemblies.

76 of the wheel sets are powered by a 1- horsepower motor (total = 76 hp).

The field will support approximately 94,000 square feet (over 2 acres) of natural grass.

The grass is Tifway-419, a Bermuda hybrid. It was planted by using stolons, or plugs, that provide the best long-term field conditions.

The tray has a fairly sophisticated irrigation system that works on timers and can be customized. The water will drain through a 1-inch-deep mat and several pipes that lead to a main drainpipe underneath the field tray.

A few inches of water will remain in the tray while the field is in play to keep the grass moist."

Good point regarding Peoria. Nice area around the Arrowhead Shopping Center and the Peoria Sports Complex.

Also, you can avoid the I-10 traffic on surface streets, namely Glendale Ave, iif you stay in Phoenix, Tempe or Scottsdale.

My friend and I just booked a hotel is this area.... Is there a good bar/restaurant that we should go to before and after the game? (Preferably within walking distance because I'm thinking we will need to do some post match celebrating after the 2-0 win).

I've never been here. Their are some other places on 83rd ave. Maybe someone more familiar with the area will know. The pictures inside Fox & Hound look alright.
