So, who do you all think, not hope, will win the Supporters Shield next season?
I've chosen the Shield rather than the Cup because it IMO reflects the best time over the whole year.

I go Red Bull based on the money they have with the new DP rule and the draw of the big city on the east coast for a name European player.

Red Bull... We will be the club to beat next season.

Arena with more time to work with these guys, 2 DP slots and plenty of dough to fill them.

This is a little early for this. I anticipate a lot of offseason player movement this year. Especially for my Wizards. New coach, new technical director, entire new team strategy. Way too early to call.

Regarding NY winning due to implementing the DP rule? That isnt going to make them the best team in the league. Many times adding an egotistical "star" to a team will make them worse because of the clashes that happen internally with the team.

Houston should have a good shot at winning the SS in '07.

Unlike '06, the Dynamo will be well settled in at the beginning of the season.

And, IMHO, the Dynamo have the best head coach in the league in Dom Kinnear.

I'm willing to bet that the above vote reflects the teams a voter follows and has absolutely nothing to do with who they think will have the best regular season record

    I disagree.

RSL, for instance, has loads of fans on BigSoccer, and yet they have only 1 vote.

And I'm sure there others like me (an FC Dallas fan) who voted for a team other than their own (Houston Dynamo).

Yep, as is plain to see, my MLS team is the Revs, but sadly, I voted RBNY. I'm sure, with the parity rules in place, it gets harder year on year for Nicol and Mariner to keep pulling rabbits out of the hat.
Having said that, I've noticed one or two blindly picking their own teams. The Toronto votes especially. Come on guys, it's a new team with half a roster and most of them have only met to shake hands after playing against each other.

I seriously do not see another team winning the SS in '07. They're just a monster.

Ask me in march and I'll feel a bit less like I'm talkin' out of my hind end. I do most all the time but at least by then it'll have a bit more to based on after the off-season's player / coaching moves.

Anyone who doesn't believe that DC United will once again be the top team in the league during the regular season is delusional. It's doubtful that United will lose any key players, they've recently resigned Gomez and Moreno, and it doesn't look as if any of our current starters or key bench players are headed to Europe anytime soon.

edit: not to mention United is likely to have one or two huge acquisitions during the offseason.

Seriously, we'll run out to a big lead again, then collapse and lose in the ECF again.

*edit*: And nobody has voted for the Crew yet... Of course this means that I've been wrong and they'll end up winning the shield in 07

Ask this again in March. We don't even know who is going to be playing for a lot of teams come next season.

I took the plunge and went with the Crew - heck, it's December and rosters are a mystery. I just didn't want to keep reading a thread where people keep saying "no votes for the Crew!"

Will Hesmer and Danny O'Rourke were the missing pieces!

Given it's only December, we've seen a small number of roster moves, and I bet you we are in store for a TON more I can't in good faith accurately say one way or the other. Unless DC comes up with some miracle roster moves and is able to keep B.Carroll and the rest of the backline I venture to say DC isn't going to win the SS (MLS Cup is always up for grabs). The DP rule won't help RBNY at all, sorry but egos on that team no matter who they bring in are already a roadblock and its just going to continue. As the rosters stand now I'll go for Houston or possibly dare I say, Chivas.

Way too early to say but I'll make this prediction:

the SS will come from one of LA Galaxy, RBNY, DCU or Houston. In fact I'll predict those will be the #1 and #2 seeds in each respective conference right now (in no specific order).

LA: Donovan will have something to prove and they will likely make a big splash (maybe the biggest) with the DP rule. They also have a solid core that when motivated can win almost any game, they key is having them motivated for an entire season.

RBNY: Got better as a team by dumping AG (even if he is their best player), and will add two big names, plus Arena should be able to put it together. If they aren't the SS winner they might actually be in better shape to make a run at the MLS Cup at the end of the season.

DC: They have something to prove as well that the collapse was a fluke and they are still the best team in the league. They should also be adding a big time player or two this offseason (maybe not as big a name as RBNY and LA though). DC's biggest gain in the early goings will be playing together for the CCC which could help them get off to a fast start. Conversely it could be 2005 all over again with them overextending themselves and burning out too soon. (see also 2006) If Novak can learn how to better manage his resources they'll at least be in the mix at the end.

Houston: If DeRo leaves this winter they're not in the equation anymore, but with him and Ching and a veteran team that's been together and performing well for a long time in MLS they have to be in consideratioin. This is a team that has the potential to run through the West but also has the potential to fall to #3 or #4 in the West depending on what moves teams make this offseason. Dallas, Chivas and LA will be pushing them this season.
