I not vouching for the authenticity of this but......

I hear rumor that the wizards are looking at some school held land in Ray-Pec owned by the district near Highway 71 to develop their project, and they got a good shot at it, over the protests of a few nimbys in the area.....

Might be news.. might not be anything.......

Always a possibility.....The Missouri side is definately still in the running for a complex location.

Personally, I would not want it out in Ray-Pecker land, but it would actually not be that far for me....straight down 135th to South 71.

If ray-pecker is a possibility, might as well go back with Gardner or DeSoto......at least the highways to Gardner & DeSoto are in decent shape.

Well, time-wise Ray Pec isn't much longer of a drive than Arrowhead. I honestly don't care where it goes as long as it gets built. Closer would be good, but I'm not gonna argue wherever. I am a bit concerned about the "school held land" part though. Going a couple years without drunken tailgates is already going to be a couple too long IMHO. If the Wizards were going to buy the land outright that wouldn't be an issue, but if it ends up on school land like LA, we have to do the "sneak to drink" thing and I'm not a fan of that.

Not too bad for us....but between about 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. traffic is stop-and-go on southbound US 71. Not as bad on Saturdays, though.

Out of curiousity (and a mental theory because my wife went to Rockhurst and I used to be in that area a lot), I did a quick mapping test of your general locale to the Raymore area and to the Olathe area and the time is almost identical. I think your in a spot where just about any of the proposed locations in the south end of the city would rule. :)

Thats cool. I was just thinking since i get on 71 to get to downtown and my office, that going South on 71 straight there would be faster, but honestly, i dont go out to Olathe and the other areas mentioned in KS, so i dont really know how long it takes. Looks like either way would work for me.

the truth though, and there is no way around this, is that i would drive long distances and through difficult circumstances (im not used to hitting traffic much) to get to a Wizards game if i had to. i just want us to get a stadium of our own, that we can be proud of. if i had my way it would be in what i consider the city, but honestly, i dont care. when i have kids, i want to be able to take them to the local soccer-specific stadium to watch a game, wherever that happens to be.

i have my opinions as to the name of the team, and the logo, and where the stadium is located, and where we play our games in the meantime, but i think that stuff is really kind of irrelevant at this point. i feel lucky to still have a team in my home town. once more - thank god for Ongoal.

The biggest factor, speaking for myself, next to the cost of developing the site is which site offers the best chance of growing the supporter section and I'm not convinced Ray-Pec scores very high on that one.

Sure about that? My brother lives over there, went to high school there, and he parties with a large crowd of 18-25 year olds over there. Those kids will go to something in their back yard. Now if they'll join a supporters section and add value to the group is another question. But I know there are people in the area that love soccer. The question is: will the rest of the city go that far south for the team? If they would have gone to the location proposed in the vote they should be willing to go to this location. Hell, Raymore is growing like you wouldn't believe, so this is a good spot if you ask me.

I'm not as convinced as Ben that this would be a good location. Don't get me wrong, I'll echo Stu's comment earlier that "if you build it, we will come".....just build it somewhere in KC and we will be there. I just don't think that far south (i.e. out of KC proper) makes a lot of sense. It's all just speculation at this point, but I fear we would lose more in attendance than we would gain with this move this far south. Ray-Pec is certainly no Frisco.....it makes me a bit nervous.

Plus, they will need to have a designated area in the parking lot for tractors and combines. And hey, we could hold "wear your overalls night" promotions, maybe get a tie-in with a feed & grain distributor......this could be a hoot!

I hear ya, although it is barely more south than 159th and US 69. But this is a growing area, which is why it might be a good location. Any of these ignores all the people in the northland, so any fans up there have the biggest gripe.
For you, all you have to do is take 135th/150 Hwy into MO and go 10 minutes south. It'll take you 20-30 minutes to get to the game depending on traffic and lights.

That far south or that far from Johnson County? To me, living in Independence, it's no more in the middle of nowhere than south Olathe would be.

Yup, it's all about perspective. From south Olathe, Independence seems like the other side of the globe.

Oh and Robert - about the combines and overalls nights. Trust me, you venture much more south of where I am in Olathe (into Spring Hill, etc) and you start to worry about hearing things like "you got a purdy mouth."

I've lived in Belton, Grandview (Grandview proper and "Belvidere"), KCMO and now Olathe. Each has its pros and cons. Put the stadium wherever...just put it somewhere in the metro area.

I'm not saying I wouldn't come based on the location; let me make that clear. If they are playing anywhere withing 50-60 miles of my house I will purchase season tickets, because I am a Cauldronite and I will do what it takes to support the Wizards, period. What I am saying is that the farther from the center point of the metro (wherever that may be), the more careful OnGoal needs to be in terms of the demographics and logistics. They need to think about the consequences of selecting a temporary site at one extreme end of the city and then putting the permanent facility 30-40 miles away at the opposite edge of the city. If OnGoal does that, they may find that they defeat our efforts to grow the supporter section, because the new people we bring into the section at the temporary facility are not likely to be as unconditional in their support as we are.

If the newbies embrace the enthusiasm of the Cauldron... then there is no reason to doubt their continued "unconditional support".

I agree with most of the posters here. I'm not going to drive through the triangle, down 20 miles of KC's worst roads to go see them play at a high school. The problem is, nobody else has stepped forward. We don't have much choice when no one else wants us. And since we can't play at Arrowhead even the following year as they have stated, we have several years of trying to find a high school to play on at the last minute every year, EVEN IF we do get a stadium built, which isn't looking very good.

    Philadelphia here we come!

WTF? Are you joking? No one has said they wouldnt drive there, they would just prefer not to... and you should be shot for even jokingly making that comment about philly.

My thoughts exactly. We would all love for the team to play right down the street, but this is KC...there is nowhere that is right down the street from everyone.
