Vote for the best of these excellent classic goals. I'll run another poll next week with new contenders, and we'll settle on the Best of the Best. I'm surprised you didn't include Cantona's other chip. It's always the one I've seen when people talk of Cantona, and I think it's better. He dribbles a few players, does a one-two with a teammate, and then finishes it up with an even better chip of the goalie than that one. I don't know where to find a clip of it, though. =/
Ding ding. I'll look for it to include in a future poll. I just grabbed these somewhat arbitrarily. They're all very good goals, and all have decent online clips. I've got links to hundreds more though, so there are plenty more contenders.
Some great clips. You should also include, Bergkamp's little flick to himself in the FA semi-final against Newcastle two years ago.
Here's a better link for that Roberto Carlos goal: http://spysports.net/RobertoCarlosFreeKick_00192_small1.jpg
Maradona's goal is the best without a doubt. Schreuder's goal was amazing, but it could easily be just luck. Maybe he was pissed and just kicked the crap out of it, it's not likely, but you never know. That goal took a hell lot of luck. If Schreuder's goal is the best, then Ronaldinho's goal against England should be here too. My criteria for "The best goal ever" is that it has to be a goal that took skills and didn't depend on luck. Maradona's goal is better because it takes skills, besides it was against England in the World Cup (makes it better). That clip that you show is not the complete video clip. He was surrounded by two english players and made a spin to get out of it before your clip starts. So, he actually dribbled about 6 players. One goal that you missed was Mexico's Negrete in Mexico 86. The mexicans made several passes and before the big box Negrete got the ball on the air and did a sideways kick in the air.
You're probably right about Maradona's goal. However I have seen it so many times it loses its luster.
Oh yeah. That goal was great. I wished I had that on my computer. I haven't seen it in a while, but it's definitely worthy of being in a Top 10 goals list. =)
Great idea, well executed. I went with Maradona, just because it involved him doing more things extremely well (although Bergkamp's goal was probably my favorite from that WC). I must say that, despite the fact that Roberto Carlos is one of my favorite players, I have a hard time voting for a free kick--no matter how skillfully done--over goals taken in the run of play. Seems like a different thing to me.
all of these goals were fantastic, they were all very impressive i ended up voting for scheuder, just based on how far away he was and how he kicked it i was tempted to vote for carlos' and shearer's as well how about we start a thread that has the best goals complete with video clips, it doesnt need to have a poll, we can just reply with which goal we liked the best
I believe this is meant to be a knockout process, more goal clips next week finally coming down to the best goal ever.... not sure, but thats what i took from his post.
Exactly. I think I have enough to do 8 initial rounds of excellent goals. Then we can take the 8 winners and have a final Best of the Best playoff. Note: the Brazilian Nelinho had the early lead, but Maradona has taken over top spot. Nice to see lots of votes being spread around though. All great goals.
Question: On the Maradona goal, has anyone seen a different angle for that? It almost looks to me like the defender slides in and kicks the ball into the goal. Anyone else see it that way? Something about the power of the shot and footwork of Maradona makes it seem like he coudn't have hit it in that manner in his stride.
I have heard a ton of people talk about Hugo Sanchez' scissor/bicycle kick goal for Madrid as being the best ever. I have personally never seen it but I think that some magazine or maybe fifa voted it as the best goal ever. Does anyone know about this goal or have ever seen it? Negrete's goal is really nice also, but I vote for R. Carlos
The question really ought to be -- after that Maradona goal, which goal is next best. That one really is in a class by itself. My vote for #2 is Nelinho. For the sheer audacity.
i dunno. maradonna's goal requires a lot of luck. If defenders were thinking clearly, there's no way he could dribble past 6 of em. Defenders were just on their toes, making dumb tackles, instead of standing him up and forcing him to one side.
