I had pre-ordered Unreal Tournament 2004 at Electronics Boutique a few months ago (when the game was originally scheduled to hit stores in December). As I found out later, it turns out that at least for now, the regular version that I had pre-ordered and the DVD Special Edition version are currently listed at the same price and the same release date! Needless to say, I recently stopped by the same EB and switched my pre-order to the DVD Special Edition version. I'm not sure how long that'll last, so if you're planning to get this game and have a DVD drive in your PC, then hurry to your local EB store (or to EBgames.com) and take advantage of the special price before Atari comes to its senses! -G
The retail version of this game is scheduled to hit stores in less than two weeks... but on the same day as Battlefield: Vietnam. So which of those two games do I play first? -G
Either and BOTH! UT2004 is going to be on 6 CDS! THat's at least a 4GB Installation! The DVD version seems like a gorgeous option
I'm definitely getting both! If one of them is in stores before the other, then it's obvious which one I'll play first... but if they both are in stores on the same day, then I need to decide which one to play first. The entire content of those six CD's will be on one DVD, while the other DVD will include other goodies. If you want the DVD version, though, you'd better hurry! I heard that they're selling out fast. -G
Yeah, with all the content of UT2003 and new stuff specifically for UT2004, that game's gonna be huge! But even at 5GB, UT2004 will be one of the best values for your money (just as UT and UT2003 were before it) considering not only all the stuff the game will already ship with, but also with all the gametypes, mods, mutators and maps that have been and will be created by the fans! -G
I pre-ordered the Special DVD Edition at my local Gamestop, only to find out that BEst Buy will have it for $10 less on the 18th. I'm torn between waiting an extra day and making an EXTRA long trip..or conveineince and speed.
Hmm... it's hard to say. Either way, though, you'll have that UT2004 goodness on your computer before you know it! In the meantime, you can listen to some of the game's soundtrack here. -G
now I realize..my preordered version will not have the Headphones and MIC from Logitech. Dammit. Now I'm considering racing to BEST BUY and then returning one of the 2 copies.
No, I went to GameStop. Not the website. and Pre-ordered and I forgot about the Headset then I called later and asked, and they said "The headset is only for the Internet orders" So now I'm contemplating the switch. Buy from both..Bestbuy and GameStop, then return to GameStop
That's strange, considering that I bought the Special Edition from one of the local EB stores (not internet) and it included the headset/mic (though I'll just continue using the headset/mic I already have). That sounds like a good idea, assuming that GameStop will allow you to return it for money back. Even if they only give you store-credit, though, you can at least use it to get Battlefield: Vietnam. -G
As for the processor speed: the game runs pretty smoothly even if you lower some of the features in the Options Menu. -G
Upon further review. the Headset is INSIDE the Box. So, I was worried over nothing! Now It all depends on if I will get it at Best Buy and return the one from GameStop..
Hopefully it all turns out for you in the end. Trust me... once you get the game, it'll all have been worth it! -G

For those who bought this game before the Editor's Choice Edition (ECE) version recently hit stores, you can download the ECE bonus pack (minus the additional mods) from here. Make sure that you have patch v3323 installed first, though. You can also download any current UT2k4 mod you from here (the links with ECE Supported next to them are mods that are also included in the retail ECE version of the game). -G
