According to this article, Oita Trinita will follow in Gamba's footsteps by facing LA Galaxy in the semi-finals of this years PPC.

    Semi-Finals (Feb 18th)

Suwon Samsung Bluewings (KOR) vs Shandong Luneng (CHN)
Oita Trinita (JPN) vs LA Galaxy (USA)

    3rd Place Match & Final (Feb 21st)

I'll be watching it mainly to see how Shandong play so I can make judgements on how well Gamba may fare against them in the ACL. I'll also lend my support to Oita.

Galaxy have once again made the competition without actually winning anything. Though at least this time they have some sort of reason for being there as they will be the hosts. Beckham won't be on show though as he'll still be in Milan.

The LA Galaxy are terrible so it should be an easy game for Oita if they attack instead of sitting back. I will support Oita, but I believe that Suwon will win it.

what happened to the australian competitor? and wasn't it talk about including mexico as well? good with china and korea, but with the aussies gone it's become a smaller tournament imho.

Now it's becoming another A3 that was played between Japan, China and Korea.
What a joke. Btw Urawa hasn't received the prize money yet from Chinese FA who hosted 2007 A3 tournament.

Unless they've totally remade themselves, SmelLay should be thoroughly spanked.

    Re: Pan-Pacific Championship 2009 [R]

I touched on this in a SJ Q thread but I thought it might be ok to post it here too.... I'm not sure if this is realated or not but I didn't want to start a new thread. I read that the Pro Bowl is on today probably for the last time in Hawaii....reading the article they are talking of upgrades to Aloha Stadium and attracting international soccer games there. I wonder if the MLS would ever decide to go there? I'd think it would be a great decision weather wise. I'm not so sure about the traveling expenses but I'm sure all the teams and the players would relish a chance to go to Hawaii once or twice a year. Any thoughts ?

    Re: Pan-Pacific Championship 2009 [R]

In short, no. Aloha Stadium will never be soccer-only as UH-Manoa and high school football will still be played there, and Hawaii and the NFL are still in talks to hold the Pro Bowl in Honolulu every other year.

Even if this hypothetical Team Hawaii (first pick in the expansion draft: Duke Hashimoto) decided to play at the Waipio complex, travel expenses would kill it before its third season. If Hawaii wants pro soccer, it should bid for the MLS All-Star Game.

Ok well thats pretty sad that they have to wait over 700 days for a Pro Bowl and once a year for a college Bowl game.. I'd think MLS would be cool there though.....

Anyone going to the game? I'm not a Trinita fan or anything, but I live not far away from HDC. I went last year and the attendance was horrible, I'm actually shocked that they're having it again

You are a fan of both Urawaaaaaah! and the Smurfs?
A bandwagon petulant faux-"ultra" yankii and a whiny-ass, pretentious, classless Millwall-by-way-of-Silicon Valley pseudo-chav all in one?
And you're talking shit about the Galaxy out here on the Japan boards where you think we won't find you?
    What a tool.

I don't think Red was hiding.

The only reason LA is in this competition is because "Daddy" owns it.

    Omiya fans defending Urawa fans.
Now I've seen it all. Only among Smurfs...

Last thing I'll say to you guys and your bizarre little Japan outpost of Smurfdom: Galaxy is the Quakes' "Daddy" and we own your ass.

Now quit your trolling. I'm done with you here. If you don't have anything meaningful to say about this event, which your backwater club isn't even involved in, then GTFO.

Red's a decent guy.....I don't know you........but it seems like the only thing you offer is recycled MLS rivalries smack. I'd probably root for LA if I was there because I don't know the Korean or chinese rep and I hate Oita but if I want to read this, I'd just go to the LA board.

Anyone care to remind AmericanKaka what the score of the last year's final was? Just shows how crap the competition really is. Probably won't see a score like that this year from Oita....

Yes i would like for Oita Trinita to win the tournament but i also have a feeling that Suwon may take it but i hope Oita can give them a run for the tournament.
