Re: Detroit Soccer Thread [VII] First page! Welcome to Thread #7, folks. We've had more threads linked together without our own forum than probably any other city. That has to change. (I'm looking at you, mods ) Anyway, I'm getting really excited about the Women's NT game on Wednesday (it's less than a week away, can you believe it?). It's going to be an awesome time. Also, rumors are out there that the US-Mexico World Cup Qualifier won't be in Columbus, but rather in the West (Salt Lake/Seattle). Looks like the bar rather than the stadium for me. Regardless of where it's going to be, we will find out for sure by Monday.
Re: Detroit Soccer Thread [VII] How about Cleveland? They were last mentioned about the same time we were. Milwaukee? Rochester? Phoenix? Really? Don't give me excuses about MLS consideration, because there are some cities up there that haven't been a contender in YEARS - just like us. How did we get left out?
Re: Detroit Soccer Thread [VII] There are different rules to get added than there are to get removed. To be added: Expansion forum criteria: * The city has had to be mentioned by MLS as one of the potential sites for expansion. * There must be at least 10 regular posters to post in a thread requesting the forum on the Customer Service board and high traffic in the current thread(s) that are city specific in the MLS Expansion forum. To be removed? I don't know if anyone actually knows those rules.
Re: Detroit Soccer Thread [VII] Not to beat a dead horse, but why are there different rules? I mean, in the Rochester board, the most recent posts are asking why they still have a forum. If you look at the number of views and replies from all the forums in the expansion forum (not counting those with subforums), Detroit has far and away more posters. I mean, we're on Thread VII! I do think that the rules for subforums (both addition and deletion) need to be reexamined, but that's just me.
Re: Detroit Soccer Thread [VII] Because it's very difficult to figure out what to do with all of the posts. Currently, there are 10 pages of threads in Cleveland, 8 in Milwaukee, 7 in Phoenix, and 5 in Rochester. That's a hell lot of information to just throw away. On a side note - why do people effing care? Is it harming you in any way that there is still a Cleveland forum? Do you wake up every morning and it ruins your day seeing Phoenix? Let it go. If MLS isn't concerned with a city, that's not the fault of BigSoccer. It reminds me of the Elvis Costello song: Or the lip-print on a half-filled cup of coffee That you poured and didn't drink But at least you thought you wanted it, That's so much more than I can say for me
Re: Detroit Soccer Thread [VII] Like I said, I wasn't trying to beat a dead horse (read: start an argument), I was just asking why the procedures were different. That makes a whole bunch of sense from a technological perspective. And I don't care necessarily because these other cities have subforums. I think we cover so many varying topics on our thread that it would be great for us to have a subforum where we can split those topics up and keep those strings of conversation flowing and have it make sense. We only compare to the dead subforums to compare our participation to theirs. That's all.
Re: Detroit Soccer Thread [VII] None of that matters, and I really, really wish everyone would quit whining and address the most important issue here: The old thread credited me with its creation, and this one does not. Priorities, guys.....
Detroit should get its own forum cause if we don't...we'll murder you. That's right welcome to Detroit, Murder Capital of the world, yeah! WE'RE NUMBER 1, WE'RE NUMBER 1! In all seriousness...I really don't care about a thread or a forum it honestly doesn't matter.
100% agreed. Guys, let's get back to the business of talking soccer. The Detroit Ignition open their season in the new Xtreme Soccer League (XSL) tomorrow in Milwaukee. Their home opener is now just a little more than a week away, on Saturday, 12/20, @ 7:35 PM vs. New Jersey at Compuware Arena in Plymouth. If you have an opportunity, we hope you'll come on out and support the Ignition as they work to make their mark on the XSL!
How many of you guys are going to the WNT game next week? Is any sort of crowd expected? Has the game got any sort of mention from the papers or tv up there?
It seems like a decent crowd is going to be there, as a group we have 50 people going. It has gotten a bit of advertisement on local radio stations, I'm not sure about papers or TV..I haven't really seen much of either being Finals week. Honestly I really couldn't tell you a serious number of expected attendance it could be anywhere between 5-8k maybe? Thats my guess it could be horribly low or high.
There was some blurbs in the sports pages back at the end of October when it was announced. The local soccer clubs have been selling tickets from what I've heard, along with us trying to get people we know to go. Ford Field's website has a flyer advertising that luxury suites are available, starting at $1,200. Dammit, why didn't we do that! http://www.detroitlions.com/pdfs/suiterental.pdf
Did anyone not catch the article in today's Free Press about the desires of bringing an MLS team to Detroit? It's right below. \/ \/ \/ http://www.freep.com/article/20081214/SPORTS18/812140465/1066/SPORTS18
I did catch that and you beat me to it. Great reporting about the state of soccer in Michigan, and I agree, there's a hole at the top.
Craig, We are going to get 1 drum and Dan has his cowbell. If you would please bring your drum and then we can really get some beat going. I am going to bring song sheets from SA for singing and practicing at the tailgate. We need to think of some chants for the local ladies!
