I was surprised by Vietnam too, I think cause they are host. Anyway, Qatar has not been playing very good so I think Japan will win 2-0.

lol had to rub my eyes a few times to ensure this thread was vs Vietnam. I got confused because I was sure the next game was vs Qatar tomorrow.

EDIT: btw saw the Vietnam highlight. Looks they've improved a lot!

Vietnam looks a very pacey team, but let's see what Japan has to offer today first though.

Hard to believe, but I still don't see a thread for this game.

1st half ended, horrible game for both sides really. As far as Japan goes it's a bit like with Zico, in that there are so many horizontal passes, and no vertical pass or vertical runs. So the Qatar defence doesn't get forced to shuffle. I wish somebody would run forward with the ball.

Ohh I see. Ok that's why!! I was wondering.

Why not a country specific thread for it, btw?

GOD I'm so mad at the J players. I'm usually not like this but I'm fuming  I don't know where to get it out. Such a pedestrian game from players who supposedly put food on the table playing football.

    Is Endo Osim's gay lover?
Can't stand this shit any more.
Haven't seen him playing well at international level since 2003 Confed Cup.

Can anyone who saw the match say more? I can't see the damn match here in the US.................... sigh...............

From what I have read so far, there is no way Japan can beat Vietnam if they play this bad.

The performance isn't that bad for an opening game.
Qatar played anti-football but we created at least 3 good chances.
The equalizer is without doubt Abe's fault.
Qatar scored their first and final chance.
    This is football.

yeh people are over-exaggerating it a bit.
Japan stopped playing after they scored since Qatar were still bunkered even after the goal. the FK goal came on what should have been no danger at all. the guy was obviously looking for the FK but Abe should have known better. he should have just cleared the ball instead of waiting 2 hours for Kawaguchi to come out.

Still it was really bad to see Japan just passing the ball around in a pedestrian like manner. They weren't even trying hard in the first half!

I wonder if Osim is going to give them a good one after this farce of a performance.

    Re: Japan vs Qatar [R]

Well sorry for the outburst earlier. A bit unlike me if I say so myself, but I was fuming. I still am, a bit, but calmer now.

To those who didn't see it, basically it was just a tired game. Japan was trying the right sort of thing, except there was no heart in their passing and movement lacked both on and off the ball. I think their reason (or excuse) is that it was too hot to run around. Movement is crucial in Osim's style as they have to latch onto vertical pass quickly to move forward. Either that or some brave soul dribbles up with the ball.

We saw neither today. We know they can do it, they just didn't bother. I think they may have been playing a "percentage football", where they put the money where there's the most likely chance is and do as little as possible to conserve stamina. You could win that way against weaker side. It's just dull dull dull.

I'm happy that I know they are better than that and was just not trying. On the other hand, it's a bit of an insult to us supporters to do that. I feel a little bit sorry for those who paid to watch it in the stadium.

I still don't know what to make of it. With the benefit of the hindsight should I congratulate them on not losing, despite the stamina-conserving play? It was afterall not meant to be the hardest game in the group, so perhaps they are forgiven in trying to win it without tiring themselves out (purely from a tournament-strategy point of view). It was an appalling display of football though, wasn't it.

    Re: Japan vs Qatar [R]

Yes, in acutuality, Japan dominated the game and really deserved to win over Qatar, but that was because Qatar was terrible as well. It's just that they showed no heart or desire to play good football, which is just disgraceful. They are way better than this and I hope Osim teaches them a lesson.

seriously vietnam can run more than us and play with more passion. we should hit at least 2 on them or the 2nd half can be disastrous.

    1-1 (1994)
    1-1 (2000)

well we will have 6 more games to go so let's forgive them for walking around too much. qatar will be the only team to steal a point from us anyway.

Yeah... well, according to sanspo apparently Osim sh*tted on them for lack of heart so... at least they're getting the right kind of crap for it.

When you play against weaker teams like Qatar, you need good dribblers.
There is no good dribblers in current their line-up.
    S. Nakamura and K. Nakamura are playmakers. Endo is also a playmaker.
It's ridiculous that Matsui and Okubo wasn't called up.
    Especially Matsui...What's his problem?
Why the JFA always ignores him?
He has been playing well in France for three years.
