Pick who is your selection for all-time best DC United GK, while with DC United. The criteria is up to you: minutes, quility over a length of time, most brilliant moment, likeability, etc. If your favorite is not on the list, then we can have a challenge knock-off election in a subsequent thread. I guess we can also take nominations for top left back here for the next thread. I just drew up the nominations here based on significant minutes. Mark Simpson Jeff Causey Scott Garlick Tom Presthus Mike Ammann Nick Rimando Troy Perkins
Thanks, John. You remain the most underappreciated DC superfan there is. So are we voting people off, one by one, Survivor style? That tends to make for a more interesting debate.
BTW, Agoos and Namoff are the no-brainer left back options. But throw in Ben Iroha, if you could, just because he's one of the most entertaining players DC has ever had. And he's also one of the only DC players to start a World Cup match during or after his tenure with the team.
I picked Garlick. He just sticks in my mind as making some extremely important saves while making few mistakes. Also, I used to watch United games at home during the summer when I was in college. The year after Garlick was traded, my mom (not a big sports fan at all) said, as she was passing through the room: "What happened to their goalkeeper, Garlick? He was good". Mom's know best.
For the left back options, I am thinking Mario Gori, Diego Sonora (or was he right back?). I'll put Tony Sanneh in midfield.
Sonora was a right back, and Gori played on both sides. Sanneh only ever played right back for DC - when he was here Agoos patrolled the left with Pope and Llamosa in the middle. He was the right back in the 1998 MLS Cup game.
come on, everytime Simpson made a big save you got to say in your best Montgomery Burns voice "Simpson eh? excellent" that's worth a vote right there
For the sake of populating the poll, you can throw Prideaux, and Petke into the left back selections.
Well, hmmm. Are we thinking left back in terms of a three- or four-man backline? The roles are very very different; we've had Petke and Prideaux playing a very different position from the other suggestions here.
Mr. Hanki's game. He makes the rules. He can decide if we're talking about African or European Swallows. Of course, if we're at this stage already in Day number 4 of the post-season, we can do this for a variety of formations.
Where the ******** is Doug Warren? What kind of piece of ******** all time best ********ing DC mother********ing United poll doens't include Dougie?!
Gotta admit, this is the best start to an offseason I can remember. I'm having a tough time choosing between the Percalator and Mike Ammann thanks to there being no Warren.
I am thinking of proceeding with a 4-4-2, because I think all roles can be represented in that lineup, even if not perfectly appropriate to that formation as a coherent team. Also part of this is my 1997-bias. If there is a big cry for a second attacking central midfielder, then we can do a Best XII with a 4-5-2 formation.
