Thought we'd go with the all-purpose threads, once again, after what we had last week.

Here are this weekend's upcoming fixtures:

    Friday, August 5
St. Kilda v Geelong -- at Telstra Dome, 7:30 p.m. Melbourne time

    Saturday, August 6
Adelaide v Melbourne -- at AAMI Stadium, 2 p.m. Adelaide time (2:30 p.m. in Melbourne)
Western Bulldogs v West Coast -- at the MCG, 2 p.m. Melbourne time
Fremantle v Richmond -- at Subiaco Oval, 2 p.m. Perth time (4 p.m. in Melbourne)
Essendon v Sydney -- at Telstra Dome, 7 p.m. Melbourne time

    Sunday, August 7
Brisbane v Hawthorn -- at The Gabba, 1 p.m. Brisbane time
Carlton v Port Adelaide -- at the MCG, 2 p.m. Melbourne time
Collingwood v North Melbourne -- at Telstra Dome, 2 p.m. Melbourne time

And I'll be working all three Telstra Dome games this weekend. :)

For those in the tipping competition, post your tips below.

Otherwise, all the news, ladders and stats of the week will also be recorded within.

    Ladders, through 18 rounds

    Code:
    West Coast 18 16 2 0 1929 1413 136.51 64
    Adelaide 18 13 5 0 1649 1275 129.33 52
    St Kilda 18 11 7 0 1942 1539 126.18 44
    Sydney 18 11 7 0 1502 1419 105.84 44
    North Melbourne 18 11 7 0 1687 1679 100.47 44
    Geelong 18 10 8 0 1802 1609 111.99 40
    Brisbane 18 9 9 0 1880 1693 111.04 36
    Fremantle 18 9 9 0 1713 1649 103.88 36
    =========================================================
    Melbourne 18 9 9 0 1821 1877 97.01 36
    Richmond 18 9 9 0 1644 1775 92.61 36
    Port Adelaide 18 8 9 1 1623 1743 93.11 34
    Western Bulldogs 18 8 10 0 1880 1938 97 32
    Essendon 18 7 11 0 1648 1889 87.24 28
    Collingwood 18 5 13 0 1551 1900 81.63 20
    Hawthorn 18 4 14 0 1499 1826 82.09 16
    Carlton 18 3 14 1 1612 2158 74.69 14
    And the observations:

    • Six teams vying for the double-chance awarded to those finishing in the top four (and yes, even Geelong, after let-down efforts the last two weeks, are still alive for that double-chance).
    • Melbourne and Richmond, thought to be shoo-ins earlier in the season for finals footy, now find themselves on the outside looking inward.
    • Carlton beating Richmond yesterday, combined with Hawthorn losing to West Coast the day before, can mean only one thing... the contest for the wooden spoon is back on.
    • Realistically, there are 11 clubs contesting the top eight spots with four weeks to go.

Let's just say it's been a rough month, with going from "premiership favorites" to "may not make the finals". A long list of injuries can only be partially to blame, but it hasn't helped.

    The weekend results:

Friday night, at Telstra Dome, St. Kilda v Geelong:

    [result]St. Kilda 13.18 (96)
    Geelong 8.7 (55)[/result]

Onto Saturday's games, and at the MCG, the Western Bulldogs v West Coast:

    [result]Western Bulldogs 21.14 (140)
    West Coast 14.13 (97)[/result]

At AAMI Stadium, in Adelaide, Adelaide v Melbourne:

    [result]Adelaide 13.22 (100)
    Melbourne 7.4 (46)[/result]

At Telstra Dome, Essendon v Sydney:

    [result]Essendon 15.8 (98)
    Sydney 18.10 (118)[/result]

At Subiaco Oval, in Perth, Fremantle v Richmond:

    [result]Fremantle 13.15 (93)
    Richmond 9.12 (66)[/result]

On Sunday, Brisbane v Hawthorn, at The Gabba, in Brisbane:

    [result]Brisbane 18.13 (121)
    Hawthorn 11.14 (80)[/result]

And two awesome Sunday games in Melbourne... at the MCG, Carlton v Port Adelaide:

    [result]Carlton 16.13 (109)
    Port Adelaide 18.13 (123)[/result]

And at Telstra Dome, an amazing game of footy between Collingwood and North Melbourne:

    [result]Collingwood 14.14 (98)
    North Melbourne 15.14 (104)[/result]

And the tipping comp results... my god, this has just become too interesting for words alone.

    The weekend's results...

ScouseCat -- 8/8 (second week running perfect, I think?)
    Spartacus -- 7/8
    Kookaburra-NYC -- 7/8
    babytiger2001 -- 6/8
    BhoysFC1995 -- 6/8
    GoFREO -- 6/8
    goaldrush -- 6/8
    mrsbabytiger2001 -- 5/8
    TexasSoccerFan -- DNP

And the updated ladder, with three rounds to play for the official AFL guernsey...

    babytiger2001 -- 45
    Spartacus -- 45
    ScouseCat -- 44
    GoFREO -- 42
    mrsbabytiger2001 -- 40
    Kookaburra-NYC -- 39
    BhoysFC1995 -- 35
    goaldrush -- 34
    TexasSoccerFan -- 22

OK, so I've been caught, with another one hot on my tail as well. All I have to say is this: If you think "a week is a long time in footy", try three weeks, and imagine how long that must feel. This thing is far from over. :D
