My wife flew to New Jersey with the Galaxy on Thursday night and sat next to a new signing. She said his name is David and he played in Holland for the last few years. He said he will wear either 24 or 4 - she suggested 4 as it is her favorite number. Any guesses here - didn't see any info on the Galaxy or MLS web sites. james
Did some research. David Johnson is a midfielder and was a member of the US U-20 team in the 2003 Youth Championships - mainly a bench warmer - logged something like 3 minutes of playing time - so he was a teammate of current G's Steve Cronin and Ned Grabavoy. He was in residency at Bradenton and looks like he signed with Willem II out of High School. His contract at Willem was up at the end of the season, so I think we could sign him now rather than wait til August since he's out of contract. Other than that, know nothing about him. And since he's not a forward, not sure exactly why we are signing him - if this is indeed true...
There is a reserve game scheduled for tomorrow, so perhaps that will be where we can learn a bitr more about Mr. Johnson. Heck, with all the call ups and injuries, they might have had to sign people just to have enough live bodies to field a reserve team!
Yes, it more than likely is David Johnson. He trained with the Galaxy after coming back from Holland. While a youth soccer player in Southern California David played for "AGSS"(the now defunct youth soccer club), under the tutelage of current Galaxy assistant coach Afshin Ghotbi. The opportunity probably came out of David's relationship with Afshin.
Hmmmm. I like the idea of a new guy coming aboard but from how people have described him he doesnt exactly inspire confidence now does he? Although I must admit, almost anything can be better then 1 or 2 players steve puts on the field week in and week out.
agss... afshin is bringing in all his old dogs.... pete v brought him in probably... john o'brien is also an afshin guy... maybe they can get him? i dont know if htis is a good or bad thing, i mean the other clubs in so cal had some damn good players too, shouldnt be overlooked. how bout some of milans flyers or some of those orange county clubs. san diego nomads?
im probably late to this game but isn't it this guy in the middle row? http://la.galaxy.mlsnet.com/MLS/lag/about/
Seeing as he's played a couple of games for the reserves now...is there any one out there who can tell me anything about him? What (exact) position he plays, what foot he is? More importantly - is he any good, or is he just filling out the reserves until the next draft?
