zola hang's up his boots..... a truely sad day for all football fans, thanks for all the memorys mate, now get on your bike back to the bridge were there'll be a job for life training the youth players
Well, said, srd, old man... a sad day for football but maybe a great day for Chels if he DID come back and help the acedemy. What better player, or person for that matter, could you have than this man!
his presance around the acedemy and even the club whould certainly be a: a great boost for all involved & b: another sign of just how seriously the club is now takeing the youth set up old bean.... how could you not be inspired by a player of his stature (in fooballing terms obiviously ) teaching you the beauty of the beautiful game.
You knew it was coming, but you can't help but feel sad. Thank you Zola. Here's to hoping he comes to the academy and shakes things up.
Top player, one of the guys who really made the game that much more fun to watch. I don't think even the most ardent Chelsea haters could find much negative to say about him.
Zola retires Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola retired today: http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/jun29g.html
Re: Zola retires Its so sad he was amazing. However he returns to the bridge for one last tribute match on august 8... the magic continues
He was the greatest footballer I have ever seen however I wasn't alive during the 1970's so I never saw Cook, Bonneti or Peter osgood
Re: Zola retires Are you sure about that tribute match? I can't find anything on it and I know there was one last year for him against Real Zaragoza.
Re: Zola retires its on the uefa website here http://www.uefa.com/footballcentral/news/Kind=2/newsId=210997.html Bottom of the page
Napoli retired Maradona's #10 shirt. Argentina has retired it as well, but FIFA forced them to field all players as #1-23 at the World Cup in 2002. It's very rare though.
i think i heard\read somewere once that 25 is un-offically retired as a chelsea squad number, then again i could have just imagined that
Re: Zola retires To Gianfranco Zola, the best player I've seen, and the greatest sportsman I've seen. My footballing hero and idol, cheers!
