The old Estádio das Antas, (or even before) The new Estádio do Dragão And the people who give it life, colour, atmosphere. This is the thread to post any pictures about them, yours or the best on the net. I'll start with a relic that I scanned from a FC Porto History book I have FC Porto's first field: "a Constituição". First used in 1913, the field was leased and it cost 1,5 euros a year. It was muddy in the winter and dusty in the summer. Still it was the first real home of Futebol Clube do Porto. Kneel infidels.
The reason our stadium is known as the "Tribunal". FC Porto fans are well known to be demanding on their own team. The sign says "We don't want stars or spoiled kids. Only commited champions".
A little provocation: the birthday cake "celebrates" Benfica's 10 years without any League trophies. To make matters worst FC Porto dominates the domestic scene and even manages to win in Europe.
Inside the stadium. FC Porto - Chelsea, Champions League match 2005. A perfect stage for football of the highest quality.
Estádio das Antas: Inauguration day. Sport Lisboa e Benfica was invited to play in the opening game, the 28th of May 1952. President General Craveiro Lopes appended the Medal of Sporting Merit in FC Porto's flag. SL Benfica would win the game with a surprising result of 2-8.
Yeah it's real hard to pick up banners after the stadium is empty Boy those Superdragaos really have some set of balls... Ask your Superdragao friends what happens every time they come to Alvalade.. Talk about an Ass Kicking...
I have been to Alvalade on more than one occasion and the only ass kicking I have witnessed was done by the Police. Other than that all I know is that, for Porto, it was a normal thing to have 5.000 fans in Alvalade, untill your president decided it was better to stop selling tickets to Porto. On the other hand.... how many Sportinguistas travel North?
I like the Dragao, it really is a wonderful stadium, but to me it reminds me of the SkyDome here in Toronto - lovely, a nice stadium all around, but an eyesore. Just a big hunking piece of concrete. I mean, Alvalade XXI may have gone a little overboard with the tiles, sure, but it isn't an eyesore. It has some sort of vibrancy to it. Don't flame me - it's only a thought
An eyesore...? Maybe it's the picture! (Notice how the cars on the left picture are the same cars on the right. )
Sorry forca but Alvalade is an eyesore I passed by it it is horrible. Luz is beautiful so is Dragao especially when your there the glass or plastic roof is gorgeous. Braga is a huge hunk of concrete (intimidating) but we all know that the sorrounding make it beautiful and unique.
Today, 16th of November 2005, is the second anniversary of the innauguration of the Dragão. Porto's stadium is the only stadium in Portugal that continuously kept increasing its attendance averages, since the day it was innaugurated. It averaged 34.000 people in the first year (numbers that still reflected the lower average of the old Estadio das Antas) The following year the average increased to 36.000 people, and so far this year it is at 41.000 people.
