DECISIVO NA ESTREIA COM O BENFICA
    O grande Cubillas

the next Porto - Benfica was called the Cubillas vs Eusebio, Porto won with Abel today leaving in Newark scoring the first goal, Eusebio playing midfield tied in the 33 m assisted by Nene, but Cubillas assisted by Abel, the game was over soldout with at the time 2000 contos today would be 2 million euros

without television, everybody playing either at 3 pm in the winter, 4 pm in the spring, was hard to find a empty seat, I remember go to Beira-Mar, Mario Duarte complete full, everybody standing, they let the kids like me, go under the wood rail and right by the line, so we could see the game,

when I went to College at San Jose de Deus in the city of Porto, Rua de Santa Catarina, every other Sunday I would go to a top of mountain by the Antas stadium before the [segundo anel" and we could see half of the Porto field, we just couldn't get any tickets, and also couldn't afford, we could tell when was a Porto goal by the fans reaction

these was before Cubillas came into town

Teofilio Cubillas played in two World Cups eight years apart and scored five goals in each, making him one of the most prolific scorers in World Cup history. A virtually unknown 20 year old in 1970, he was soon acknowledged after helping Peru to the quarter- finals. "Nene" Cubillas was born at Lima in March 1949 and began with local team, Alianza. He liked to run at defences, was fast and had good close control and a fine shot. South American Footballer Of The Year in 1972, the following year he joined FC Basle for £97.000. Six months later he signed for FC Porto, for £200.000, and settled into a midfield role.

Peru did not qualify for the 1974 World Cup, but 12 months later they were South American champions, Cubillas scoring twice in their 3-1 first leg semifinal win over Brazil. When he helped Peru reach the second phase of the 1978 World Cup, he was an Alianza player again. In 1979, Cubillas joined George Best at Fort Lauderdale and in five seasons in the NASL scored 65 goals, including three in seven minutes against Los Angeles Aztecs in 1981. The 1982 World Cup failed to produce any more goals for him and he bowed out after 81 caps and 26 goals for Peru.

in 30 years with all the Porto championships, no Porto player captivaded the fans like he did

he was in Porto at the time of the transaction to the winning ways, thanks in part by the coach and ex Porto player and portuguese international Jose Maria Pedroto consider the genius, the made the Porto of today
he was ahead of all the coach's at least 30 years, many coach's of today like Jaime Pacheco, Jose Mota, Antonio Sousa, Cajuda, Manuel Jose, Jesualdo Ferreira, his son Bernardino Pedroto, still use his style of coach
