I'm rooting for acquittal because I want the idiots who have dedicated precious hours reading about every element of this case to feel outraged and disgusted.

Since two jurors were just replaced and then they quickly came to a verdict, I'm guessing they found him guilty.

And the verdict is guilty. Two counts.

Laci's murder was guilty in the first degree, and the baby's in the second degree.

They can't put him to death though.

Yep. I'm also guessing that had the other two jurors not been dismissed it would have been a hung jury.

Are you sure? I thought I heard that there were special circumstances, thus eligible for the DP...

Yes, they can. Double murder with at least one being in the first degree is a special circumstance for the death penalty.

Darn, we're doing such a great job of it now in California

There's already 600+ on death row. We'll have to do them in electric bleachers to get back on schedule.

Absolutely ridiculous that they can even charge him with the murder of the baby. The damn thing wasn't even born.

You think it should be legal to kill an 8 month fetus against the will of the mother?

Re: Peterson Jury ready to give verdict...

So if the mother wants to kill it at 8 months it's ok?

    That's where I don't see the logic.

Where can you legally do that?

No, but in some cases it's legal. But regardless of what anyone thinks about abortion, the state has a clear interest in protecting the life of a viable fetus whose mother intends to carry to term.

Re: Peterson Jury ready to give verdict...

It's legal everywhere in the US. Since the Nebraska law was shot down all of the other states laws were rejected as well.

I support a woman's right to choose, in the first or second trimester, but in the third I have a different opinion about it. My problem is that Peterson is convicted of killing a fetus but if Lacey had don't it it would have been legal. I think the state is illogical on its stance.

Third trimester abortions can be prohibited. That has been the case ever since Roe v. Wade, which explicitly stated that viability of the fetus in the third trimester is a compelling state interest that can trump a woman's right to choose.

"Partial Birth Abortion" is just an inflamatory term for a particular procedure that is used, often for late term abortions, but can be used earlier. Third trimester abortions can still be prohibited if the state so chooses, regardless of the procedure.
