The basic schedule is out: http://www.jfa.or.jp/match/topics/2010/60/001.pdf Interestingly (or not?), it seems like many regional minor clubs are set to play the top dogs in their area. For example, Nara and Kyoto prefecture's winners will play to get the "honor" to face Kyoto Sanga, and I see quite a few cases like this... One interesting game could be Gamba Osaka-SC Tochigi, if the latter beats FC Gifu in game #1. The University team, if surviving the round against East Tokyo's champions, will play FCT at Ajinomoto.
Basically since due to the hectic calendar (WC main culprit?) the first two rounds are played on September 3rd and 5th, it just makes sense for the first games to be played as close as possible to the venue where the second game will be played... Thus you have the prefectural champions playing close (or in) to their prefecture J.League club's stadium, whenever possible, I guess.
Looks like Sendai would (likely) have to go through Cerezo, Kashima, and Nagoya if other results go according to form. Some pretty tough games for them... In any case, the Emperor's Cup is one of the last things on my mind right now... I'm pessimistic for all things Vegalta these days; staying up is the paramount priority for now...
Official 90th Emperor's Cup Thread [R] In a couple of days we should have the final grid, with games kicking off on 9/3. Here is a link to a PDF with the grid so far... http://www.jfa.or.jp/match/matches/2011/0101tennouhai/kumiawase.pdf The Internet version is here: http://www.jfa.or.jp/match/matches/2011/0101tennouhai/ (I think we don't have a thread for this yet, if we have, well... sorry... Shuvy will merge them )
Re: Official 90th Emperor's Cup Thread [R] Only two weeks left! I can't wait. Tickets to the games are so cheap, too. I wish I could go.
Re: Official 90th Emperor's Cup Thread [R] I think I'll go on 9/3 and 9/5 in Kyoto. I am wondering who are the Kyoto and Nara representatives, and if they will be good enough to beat Sanga, or if they will leave the job to JEF United
Re: Official 90th Emperor's Cup Thread [R] I can't imagine the Saitama or Tochigi representatives will be much trouble for Urawa, even considering the recent terrible form. I mean, it's not like Matsumoto is in that section now...
Re: Official 90th Emperor's Cup Thread [R] We do... and it was you that started it back in May! https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1442071 Here's hoping for a third consecutive Gamba success!
Re: Official 90th Emperor's Cup Thread [R] Goru You want to translate the PDF? Cheers. Knew you'd understand
Prefectural finals so far: Kochi: Kochi University 2-1 Nangoku Kochi Okayama: International Pacific University 1-0 RK Classic Tokushima: Tokushima Vortis Second 5-0 Sanyo Electric Tokushima Toyama: Toyama Shinjo Club 1-1 Valiente Toyama (PK 4-3) Yamanashi: Tamaho Club 0-0 Hikawa Club (PK 4-2) The others are this coming weekend.
Furtho, do you happen to know who is in the final for Nara and Kyoto prefectures? The winners will play their game at Nishikyogoku on 9/7, I might actually go.
Kyoto finalists are not decided yet; see here for tournament details. Nara finalists are Nara Club and Diablossa Takada.
Thanks a lot. If I go watch any of the games, I'll write a short report. By looking at the names, Sagawa and Doshisha seem the favorite. In a way it will be good if Doshisha makes it, because universities always have a good support.
I can't even find the information on the Saitama FA website for the Urawa/Omiya brackets... I found a few PDF files regarding the competition, but it just said which prefectures were competing, not the actual representatives.
At the youth level, up to University is very good. Unfortunately it doesn't move up to the professional level. Until Kyocera will keep putting in charge of Sanga salarymen who don't know much about soccer, at J.League level Kyoto will always be a joke.
The prefectural finals are in the main this coming weekend, apart from those mentioned a few posts upthread; hence the actual representatives are mostly undecided as yet.
Saturday's handful of prefectural finals: Aichi: Chukyo University 0-0 Aichi Gakuin University (PK 6-5) Kagawa: Kamatamare Sanuki 5-0 Takamatsu University Kyoto: Sagawa Printing 5-0 Doshisha University Shizuoka: Honda FC 4-1 Hamamatsu University Tokyo: Tokyo Verdy Youth 2-1 Yokogawa Musashino Wakayama: Kainan FC 1-2 Arterivo Wakayama
WOW!! Tokyo Verdy Youth!!! BTW, Sagawa Printing looked better than Sanga under Kato. If they beat Nara on Friday, as I expect them to, we'll have a good game on Sunday, especially if Sanga gets in it with the usual arrogance they have in the Emperor's Cup (lost deservedly at home to Meiji and Kofu in recent years...)

It looks as most of JFL made it, and also quite a few Universities. The most exciting team, still, seems to me Tokyo Verdy Youth. I also love the name Dezzolla Shimane, whatever it means.
