Apparently Pachuca and Monterrey will play this Wednesday to secure a spot as one of Mexico Copa Libertadores representatives. The other two spots will come out of Mexico's PreLibertadores tournament. So 3 total spots in 2005. http://espndeportes.espn.go.com/story?id=265160
Re: Mexico's Copa Libertadores Participants So basically, the champions from 2 and 3 (short) seasons ago, fight for one spot. Am i to assume that Pumas the current defending champ has to go to the Concacaf Cup Champions Cup? I still dont like the selection process for the Pre-Libertadores!
Re: Mexico's Copa Libertadores Participants Have they selected the teams that will play in the U.S. for the 2 Mexican spots in the Libertadores.
Re: Mexico's Copa Libertadores Participants That's what I was looking for on soccertv.com and I can't find any reference to it
Re: Mexico's Copa Libertadores Participants most likely, Fox Sports World will have it. You can also ask riverplate.
Re: Mexico's Copa Libertadores Participants No, this will happen after the end of the ongoing Apertura. If the format is the same as last year, here is how it works: 8 teams will be in the tournament. These are the top eight teams by points gained from the last Clausura and the ongoing Apertura. UNAM and the winner of this Apertura are ineligible due to commitments with the CONCACAF Champions Cup. Right now, here are the teams that would be in this tournament: Jaguares, Chivas, Toluca, America, Atlas, Atlante, Puebla, Tigres.
Re: Mexico's Copa Libertadores Participants nope nope nope... monterrey 2-2 pachuca http://www.esmas.com/deportes/futbol/393298.html
Re: Mexico's Copa Libertadores Participants I was going to say the same thing Hecho en Mexico. I really hope that Monterrey wins so Herrera can take his offensive futbol to south america.
Re: Mexico's Copa Libertadores Participants WAIT A MINUTE! he was right. Pachuca won the game 2-1. Esmas got it wrong!
Mexico's Pachuca boost Libertadores hopes Since results have already been posted in the thread: MEXICO CITY, Sept 23 (Reuters) - Uruguayan Rodrigo Lopez scored in the sixth minute of injury time as Pachuca won 2-1 at Monterrey in a qualifying match for next year's South American Libertadores Cup. Pachuca defender Francisco de Anda put the visitors ahead in the second half of Wednesday night's match while Argentine striker Guillermo Franco hit Monterrey's reply but also missed two penalties. http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news?slug=reu-libertadoresmexico&prov=reuters&type=lgns
Re: Mexico's Copa Libertadores Participants So does that mean who ever loses out of Monterrey and Pachuca is out? That kind of sucks for the one who does, because they were champions and the other teams were not, but they get to continue
Re: Mexico's Copa Libertadores Participants According to the first article I posted: "El vencedor ganará un boleto de México para la Libertadores y el derrotado tendrá todavía una segunda oportunidad para calificar al máximo torneo continental, cuando en enero próximo se juegue la eliminatoria mexicana."
Re: Mexico's Copa Libertadores Participants Two things: 1. Let's hope that Jaguares make it through to Libertadores so they can get lights at Victor Manuel Reyna. 2. We're going to the qualification tournament. But not to Dallas again.
Re: Mexico's Copa Libertadores Participants Of the teams mentioned i would love to see Chiapas play in the Libertadores. Its time for teams outside of the major population centers to go, remember Santos got robbed against River Plate, they did good. I would also like to see Tigres and/or Monterrrey, their fans will tear down the stadiums. And of course my Cruz Azul, which at this moment just getting out of relegation problems would save this pityful season.
Re: Mexico's Copa Libertadores Participants fvcken televisa... i hope they dont, other teams have young mexicans that could use international experience. jaguares doesnt.
Re: Mexico's Copa Libertadores Participants If I owned an MFL team I would have gone to the FMF and put a complaint so they would get lights. It defies logic how they can allow the fans and players to suffer through the heat of Chiapas at day. It makes the MFL look bad that teams will only get lights if they get to play in Copa Libertadores. It's not like the teams are poor and can't afford it! I have seen mfl games played at day and games played at night. When Mexican teams play at night they have nothing to be jealous of from euro leagues. The quality of play is equal. Somehow the idiot owners and FMF don't see this.
Re: Mexico's Copa Libertadores Participants Games sometimes look boring during the day. I too agree that there is something about night games that have a better look to it. Perhaps is that fact that more people attend night games than days, i dont know?
