    So many possibilities.
    • Burn
    • Dinner, Tbone or filet mignon (pick your favorite cut)
    • Islamico was better
    • Stereotypes (as in Corny Texan)
    • Republic
    • Houston Texans
    • Diablos (Horns are horns)
    • Taj Mahals (Cow deity reference)

    Old Blues

    Once again, for reference:
Of the cattle during these famous cattle drives that inspired "Tex", one cattle, Charley Goodnight's "Old Blue" was one of the strongest, most determined of all and he was used many times to lead the herd to railheads.

Toros is OK, but as I pointed out in another thread, Bulls works out much better when it comes to chants, etc.

    Compare

    "Let's Go Bulls!!"

    and a chant of

    east side: "DALLAS"
    west side: "BULLS!!"
    east side: "DALLAS"
    west side: "BULLS!!"

    with

    "Let's Go Toros!!"

    and

    east side: "DALLAS"
    west side: "TOROS!!"
    east side: "DALLAS"
    west side: "TOROS!!"

and I think you'll see we might want to go with Bulls rather than Toros.

And the California "Bad News" Bears traveled to the Astrodome to defeat the Houston Toros many years ago, as chronicled in their documentary "Breaking Training". ;)

    I refuse to chant bulls.
We need something more original than that. We already have a logo that
is copied from another team we don't need a nickname that copies another.
Also I think choosing a nickname should wait until we see the new kits. If
they are blue, then Ol Blues or Old Blue (singular) is fine, if they are red
I could live with Toros, Reds, Rednecks

I'm partial to Old Blues for the same reasons Wallydrag is. However if the kit is a red shirt oriented I don't see it being accepted. You better being wearing a blue shirt if you want to be called the Blues (Chelsea, France etc etc). Why not have blue shirts instead of red? Toros is the logical, yet not really inspired, choice otherwise if we are sticking with red.

I picked "Other" because I think we should wait and see if a name emerges.

    BURN.

You can name the cow mascot 'Old Blue' if you want.

But last night as I was falling asleep, I kept thinking about a whole mess of things.

    1. Chivas. How their opponents kept calling them Chivas, and they turned the insult around into pride and took the name back. So I can't help but think that someday we might just be calling ourselves 'the Cows.' Is there any team anywhere called the Cows?

    2. So, now that the league has given us no 'nickname', something the hardcore soccer fans have always wanted -- now we're in a hurry to annoint one ourselves. Despite the story that traditionalist have been hammering the league with: that nicknames should develop organically through history. I suppose it should've been pretty obvious that this would happen. And here's my prediction: the mood of the country will be reflected by the FC Dallas fans: We'll end up with two groups of people arguing nastily among each other between whether we're the Burn or the Toros. And this'll happen by the middle of next season.

    3. I kept hearing this cross-stadium, back and forth chant, an extention of the 'Dallas!' 'Burn!' chant. It went like this:

    FC
    Dallas
    Ninety-six
    BURN!

The da-da, da-da, da-da-da, DA! Rhythm seemed, in my head, to be pretty damn cool. But maybe that's just me.

Bulls wasn't my first choice either. But I think it's quite a bit preferrable to Toros.

Just try saying "Toros" out loud in a sentence, and I think its easy to see why we should use something else.

And "Old Blues" is just to obscure to make a good nickname, IMHO. I lived in Texas for twenty years and am pretty up on my Texas history, and until yesterday, I'd never heard of Old Blue.

Besides, Old Blue was a steer and our mascot is a bull.

I was originally a 'diablos' fan, but if we've got a bull on the shield, then I'm for 'toros.'

As I think El Jefe said on the MLS N&A thread, we're going to have a hard enough time explaining the 'F.C.', without explaining why there's a bull on the logo but our nickname is actually something else.

Er, Wally. Leave the castrated animals to t.u.

    Old Blue was a steer.

    Our mascot is a bull.

And in case you didn't know, there's a pretty big difference between the two.

*sigh* Repeating something mentioned in the several threads on the change.

The uniforms will be primarily red.

My guess is that the logo has so much blue in it so that it will offset well against the red uniforms.

I think you guys are in way too much a hurry to get a nickname. Give it some time, kick the tires, sleep on it...

    I could buy "Dallas Reds"

There is some sports tradition behind the name, but people around these parts don't necessarily instantaneously think baseball when you say it.

Reds would also go well with our mascots name, "Gorby", and one of our possible new flags:
