The draw for the 2009/10 Emperor's Cup is out! :D

    http://www.jfa.or.jp/match/topics/2009/68/01.pdf

All J1 and J2 teams join in the second round and have 6 matches ahead of them if they want to go all the way and claim the title (compared to 5 last year for J1 teams).

First round will take place on September 19th-21st, second round takes place on October 10th-12th.

Who will be the Sagan Tosu of 2009?

So this year, J1, J2 and the top four JFL clubs will all start in Round 2 (round-of-64). In the past, J1 clubs started in Round-of-32, so they will have extra round this year.

That's good to see -- not as good as the blind draw of previous years, but an improvement nonetheless.

Looks like you could get a really good atmosphere in there if they fill it up.

A couple of big scalps already taken today, I see.

Well played to Fukuoka University and Meiji University who knocked out Mito and Shonan respectively.

Who will be the first J1 team to bite the dust?

Mito played a good match until Fukuoka U tied it up. Then the same misses that led to the poor results of this leg...

Keep a really close eye on Fukuoka U's forward Nagai. He will be a very competent player to any pro club.

he should stay in Fukuoka then, and sign with Avispa. They could surely use some better strikers! I mean, Kurobe...

Kensuke Nagai will have bright future i think. He was subbed in for Avispa 3 times this season, hopefully we will see more of him in near future.

I remember somebody said we need to wait Emperor Cup's J1 vs J2 games to determine if there is huge gap between the leagues (as I suggested...).

Eventually, J2 vs JFL, Regional Leagues and Universities was enough...

Oh, one more I got: the game in Matsumoto was the one to go watch! :D

And don't tell me those amateur teams are "good": even HAYASHI :)eek:) scored against them!!!!!!!

we got knocked out early last year as well sadly. had no chance to see the match, and havent read any reports either so dont know how they played. But a fellow cerezo-friend told me a few weeks back that Cerezo was more concerned about finishing their business in J2, and therefore might wasnt going to go fully motivated into the match. but perhaps it is only excuses.

anyway, as long as we get to J1 next year i dont think anyone will care.

one can wonder if Kofu were thinking the same though, cause they needed PK's to get through.

3 J2 teams got knocked out, while 1 needed PK's to get through.

1 J1 team got knocked out, while 2 needed PK's to get through.

I dont see how that in any way proves your point:cool:

and Hayashi have scored 27 times in J1;)

besides the fact that it is 3v1, a substantial difference, J1 team that was knocked out was giving all best players to NT, and it is a poor team anyway...

When was that, in the Meiji or Showa period...?
He scored two in the last four seasons... believe me, I know...

winning on penalties isnt really winning, so we can say that 4 J2 teams failed to beat an amateur club during normal play-time plus extra-time, while 3 J1 teams did the same. And JEF hasnt played yet...

Urawa are ranked as the 8th best team in J1 pr. today, only 6 points behind an ACL-spot, so they cant be that bad.

Hayashi have scored 5 the last 4 seasons actually, 3 for Kyoto and 2 for Jubilo;)

Was he the #10? He ran rings around Mito's defenders, although to be fair, they're quite slow even for J2 I think...

What is the proper spelling for the guy 金園 英学 from Kansai University? He scored twice in the first round, did the same in the second against Kofu. And he missed the penalty what clearly marks him as great player :D

"Matsumoto Yamaga spends as much in one year on all club operations as Urawa spends on Tulio."

    I love it :D:D

Here's a 10-minute homemade digest; Reds apparently couldn't hit the side of a barn from 5 feet out.

He is already fairly well-known at the youth level. Was the star of Tono HS in the high school championships a couple years ago, and had some appearances in the U-20 NT as well.

Unfortunately, the rumours at the moment have him going to either Sagan Tosu or Albirex after graduation (which is still more than a year away)

The match at Kose was a real cracker. Ventforet came back from two boals down with 20 minutes left. I dont think Amma kantoku will ever play an understrength team again against a "weak" opponent. if not for the quality of the subs, we would have lost. In addition to the three goals on each side, both teams should have scored at least 2 or 3 more, but couldnt hold their nerve in front of goal.

Next up, Kyoto Sanga. That should be fun

That's why I like this competition.

David vs. Goliath games and younger players getting a chance.
