Here is the link for the brackets: http://www.ncaasports.com/images/ncaasports/brackets/d1_msoc_bracket_2003.pdf I think that it is time for us to have a friendly guessing game. I guess that I will start it: First Round: Tulsa FIU VTech Kentucky Wis-Milwaukee St. Peters Santa Clara Coastal Carolina UVA Creighton SJSU URI Binghamton OSU Lafyette ODU Second Round: UCLA FIU VCU Indiana Wis-Milwaukee Michigan LMU Coastal Carolina Wake Forest San Diego UCSB St. John's Binghamton Washington Akron Maryland Third Round: UCLA VCU Wis-Milwaukee Coastal Carolina San Diego UCSB Binghamton Maryland Fourth Round: VCU Wis-Milwaukee San Diego Maryland Semi-Finals: VCU Maryland Final: Maryland 3-2 First round worth one point. 2nd round = two points 3rd round = four points 4th round = 8 points Semi's = 16 points Final = 32 points Tie-breaker = final score.
Binghamton over FDU in round 1? Maybe. An upset sure but it could happen. Binghampton over Saint Louis @ Saint Louis in Round 2? Are you the Binghampton traveling mascot or what? Should Binghamton be so resourceful in beating FDU and earn the right to play SLU @ SLU and then win @ SLU I will $HIT Silver Dollars in the Center Circle of Hermann Stadium directly after the game....
Re: Re: Friendly guessing game with the brackets [r] Just like March Maddness, you choose an underdog and ride them for a few rounds. If Binghamton looses to FDU, I am out of it. But if they do beat FDU and SLU, I am seen as a genius.
So you have been waiting on the edge of your seat for the college draw to be released. Now you cannot wait for the games to start. Don't worry - you don't have to. I'm going to tell you, in a completely unbiased way, how the NCAAs are going to go down. Perhaps I should put an [R] in the thread title to avoid a yellow. ************************************ Oakland is going to crush Tulsa, only to get stomped on by UCLA. Florida International wins, only to get beat up in California against CSNorthridge. UCLA breaks out the beating stick on CS Northridge and is into the Quarters. VaTech beats Clemson, then loses to VaCommon. Cincinnati beats Kentucky, then gets beat by Indiana. Indiana then beats VaCommon to meet up with UCLA in the Quarters. Have a nice life, Jerry. UCLA beats IU by 3 goals, and moves on to the Semis. ************************************ UWM beats Western Michigan, then loses a close one to Notre Dame. Brown beats St Peters, then shocks Michigan. Then Brown shocks everybody and beats Notre Dame in the tourney's biggest upset. Then my punkass younger brother calls and brags about his alma matter. More on that later. Santa Clara beats visiting SMU, and Nuñez goes pro the day after. Santa Clara runs into a brick wall against the most underrated team in the NCAA - Loyola Marymount. Coastal Carolina beats Davidson, then shocks UNC. The good luck runs dry when they lose big to LMU. LMU and Brown square off in the quarters, and LMU works Brown over. STFU, bro. ************************************ UVA loses to Seton Hall. Seton Hall loses to Wake Forest. Creighton wins going away against UMKC, but loses big against San Diego. Then San Diego beats up on Wake Forest, and USD moves on to the quarters. CAL beats San Jose State, but gets beaten badly by UCSB. UCONN wins against Rhode Island, then loses to St John's. UCSB beats St John's in the closest game of the tournament to this point. Too bad for UCSB that they lose to San Diego after such a great run. ************************************ Farleigh-Dickinson beats Binghamton in the poorly named University game of the tournament. St Louis wins big over FDU. Portland beats Oregon State, like they always do in the tournament, then goes up to Seattle, and beats my alma matter in a 1-0 game. It's a great 1-0 game, though. Then Portland travels to Saint Louis and kicks some Billiken ass. Rutgers beats Lafayette. Rutgers beats Akron. Both games suck. Old Dominion beats NCState. Maryland beats Old Dominion, then beats Rutgers. Then Maryland, the most overrated team in the NCAA, gets worked over on an Alejandro Salazar hat trick and go home empty yet one more time. ************************************ So now your final four looks like this: UCLA - Loyola Marymount San Diego - Portland Now you have to ask yourself why in the hell are they finishing this tournament in C-Bus, and not the HDC??? It doesn't matter. In the first game, UCLA wins a thriller over LMU 3-2 in front of 367 fans. Chad Barrett scores the game winner. In the second game, Portland beats San Diego by 4 goals. Portland beats UCLA 3-1 in the championship game. ************************************ You can thank me later for saving you so much time.
Tom! I'm a big SLU fan, so I don't want to see that scenario pan out. But, I would PAY to see you (or anyone else for that matter) poop out a few coins in the circle.....
In my opinion there are way too many points given to the semis and finals - its too heavily weighted to the end of the tournament. I would suggest Semis = 12 and finals =18 or 20.
My picks - many pure guess work. Round 1 Tulsa UCF Va. Tech. Cincy UW-Mil. Brown Santa Clara Davidson UVa. Research You guys should really look at some numbers before making your picks. Coastal Carolina has a great record... in the Big South. From first hand experience, I can tell you that the conference is weak. Also, Wkae is without their All-World keeper... look for them to get knocked out early, just like in the ACC's. Not gonna pick the whole bracket... But look for UNC, Maryland, St Louis, and UCLA to do really well.... duh, right??
Re: Research No offense, but aren't the diminutive Tar Heels using their backup keeper also? And didn't they sort of stumble across the finish line including a 4-0 loss to Wake Forest during that streak? UNC has scored 3 goals in their last 6 games. I would not be surprised to see an early Tar Heel exit this year also.
Tarheels Yes, the heels did stumble a bit late in the season. But that "back up" keeper you speak of is Justin Hughes... 5-1-2, only 3 goals allowed in 8 starts, 0.35 GAA, 5 shutouts. NOT your average backup. He has been the more solid of the two down the stretch. He was not put in because of injury.. the kid is amazing. Williams was in goal for the Wake game (which was a 1-0 game with about 25 mintues left). UNC will be fine, trust me. We are solid with either keeper in the net. Injuries are healing, and the bye only helps. Believe me or not... they will make a good showing. Everyone struggled on the road in the ACC this year.

Hey Luvdabears... really like your picks in the tourney, since I am an avid SJU fan and former soccer alumnus...Please give me your thoughts on why you are picking the Redstorm to reach the title game? I can see UCLA and Maryland in the final, an obvious selection...but do you really believe the Johnnies can go that far...Thanks..If they do that would be awesome....
guessing - yes! First round Tulsa FIU Clemson Cinn W Milwaukee Brown SMU Coastal UVA Creighton Johnnies Uconn Binghampton - ya gotta pick them at least once OSU Rutgers NC State - can't believe I'm typing those letters Second round UCLA Cal St Clemson Indiana ND Brown SMU UNC Wake SD UC Santa Johnnies SLU Wash Akron MD Third round UCLA Indiana ND UNC Wake UC Santa SLU MD Fourth round UCLA ND Wake MD Semis ND Wake And the winner is Wake, if they can get by first game against UVA
Redstorm...just from looking at the brackets, I think St. John's has some good match ups. They are a very good possession team, and I think Masur is an excellent coach, especially in the post season. Plus, they always play very good defense, and they pressure the ball everywhere. That, plus I'm going with my gut on this one.
Hope you're right...I'll be at the game next wednesday with all my fellow alumni hoping we play UCONN!!! One of our biggest rivals, next to Rutgers...Thanks again...
