2006 WCQ Prediction Contest With only 57 days until the beginning of the 2006 WCQR, I figured that I would start a prediction contest on BS. There will be 7 winners at the end: 1 for each of the 6 regions and one overall winner. The winners will have the satisfaction that they are the elite at predicting matches on BS! Here are some rules that I have thought up: 1) For each correct result (picked the correct winner, or correctly picked a draw) will recieve 1 point. If you can correctly guess the scoreline you will recieve 3 points. However, if say you pick the correct result and have only one score right for one team and not the other, you will recieve 2 points. Here is an example: Colombia vs Brazil Your prediction: 2-0 Actual result: 2-1 You would recieve 2 points However, if you get the result wrong and one score right, you recieve no points. 2) All predictions must be submitted at least 1 hour before the scheduled kick-off time to recieve credit for your prediction. Anything posted after this time will be disregarded. You are allowed to change a prediction as long as it's at least 1 hour before the scheduled kick-off time. That's about it. If anyone has any ideas on a better way of doing things post it here. Here are the first matches that will be played in the CONMEBOL region on September 6th-7th, 2003: Colombia vs Brazil Ecuador vs Venezuela Uruguay vs Bolivia Argentina vs Chile Peru vs Paraguay My Predictions: Colombia 1-1 Brazil Ecuador 1-0 Venezuela Uruguay 0-0 Bolivia Argentina 2-0 Chile Peru 2-2 Paraguay Note: I will post the CAF matches when the matches get closer.
My predictions Colombia 2 Brazil 3 Ecuador 2 Venezuela 1 Uruguay 1 Bolivia 0 Argentina 2 Chile 0 Peru 1 Paraguay 1
I don't know if you should put such a heavy influence on scorelines. Maybe just a 1.5 if you have the entire correct score. Anyways... Colombia 1-1 Brazil Ecuador 1-1 Venezuela Uruguay 2-0 Bolivia Argentina 3-0 Chile Peru 1-1 Paraguay
Prize? How about a prize? For example: First Prize: A week in New Jersy. Second Prize:Two weeks in new Jersy.

I believe they will play CONCACAF instead this time. but who knows it might be the Socceroos. If it is then It would most likely be Peru, Uruguay or Ecuador.
I'm glad to see people posting already...keep um coming! Remember, you can change any of your predictions as long as it's at least 1 hour before kickoff time. As far as weighing getting the currect scoreline, how about only 2 points for a correct result and 1.5 for one of the scores right with the correct result and 1 point for just the correct result?

Great to see more people posting... Venezuela Also, making this thread a sticky might make more people join in, though that's up to the mods.

A few non-score predictions for CONMEBOL qualifying Brazil: Coach Parreira is known for leaving his imprint on any team he manages. He hasn't had a stellar record since taking the job; however, once his team's tactical system gets going, Brazil will do well. Brazilian fans can be encouraged in Parreira's 1993-1994 experience and the struggles his 3 predecessors faced in the last qualifying round. Plus, Ronaldo is healthy again, and since there will be 2 games within 5-7 days each round, Brazilian players will be able to train. Let us remember: Parreira used a limited number of players in 1993-1994 and he'll be likely to do that again. Sure, Brazil is in transition and the under-23 boys will surely be capped. But look for Brazil to reach and to maintain a steady form once a team is formed. Argentina: Marcelo Bielsa's stubbornness doesn't make him a fan favorite. yet the 3-3-1-3 has not been a flop since the World Cup--Argentina lost to Holland. Guys like Batistuta will be gone, but Argentina can still rely on some of the relatively young talents from 2002, and they like Brazil also have new kids to test. I expect Argentina to have good results against CONMEBOL competition, but for some Argentine fans, a string of losses may be what many want--so he gets fired and Carlos Bianchi replaces him. Paraguay: With Chilavert gone, and with only a so-so crop of players (Paraguay isn't a big time exporter of talent), Paraguay will focus again on good defense. Roque Santa Cruz will be the one player for their offense, but without him, Paraguay will struggle. Look for them to continue their blue-collar approach--and to fight to qualify. Uruguay: Carrasco said he will take Uruguay to Germany. Frankly, I'm not too familiar with the ages of their players, although I know Forlan, Abreu, and Dario Rodriguez have been the core guys of this team. Nor do I know which of the 2002 players are going to be dropped due to age. Uruguay will fight for every point. Colombia: So much for being America's champions. They didn't make it to 2002. But Colombia saw 2 of its teams make it to the Libertadores 2003 final four. Molina is a very good young talent. Is Ivan Cordoba still doing well as a goalkeeper? Talentwise, Colombia is 3rd in South America, but it remains to be seen whether they can form a team strong enough to compete during a 3-year qualification tournament. More potential than performance. Ecuador, Chile, Bolivia, Venezuela, Peru: of these 5 I think only Ecuador has a chance and I'm biased because they made it to 2002. Chile was in France 1998, but they failed miserably for 2002. I don't see any of these in Germany 2006. DISCLAIMER: Germany 2006 is 3 years away and anything can happen. Brazil and Argentina will make it; the rest of the pack will have to very hungry to secure a berth.
