To create a database for Europe's elite teams (Chelsea, Man U, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, AC Milan etc..), I need your input since you know it a lot better than I am. Feel free to go later than 01, but I only found numbers from 2001-2005 season.

I am not 100% sure if the info is correct. That's why I need your help. Also, some numbers are not disclosed, which would require an estimate. Anyway, here's what I have found.

    http://www.footballrumours.info/transfers/cbc2005/league1.html

    2005
    Total IN: Undisclosed
    Total OUT: 13.71 m

Net Gain: N/A (need more info)

    2004
    Total IN: Undisclosed
    Total OUT: 2.6 m

Net gain: N/A (need more info)

    2003
    Total IN: 13 + undisclosed
    Total OUT: .1 million

Net loss: N/A (probably around 12 million pounds)

    2002

    Total in 7.1 + undisclosed
    Total out 4.5

Net loss: N/A (around 3 million pounds is my guess)

I have most of the transfers in from season 96/97 - 05/05. Someone will need to check the numbers, but it should be okay. No idea about players out through.

Shouldn't a big club always be in the red on transfer net? You get the most Gain from selling your best players and get the get the biggest Loss from buying the best players.

We aren't Ajax. I should hope we always spend more than we make. This isn't the late 90s where money just appears and vanishes like smoke. The days of making 30 million from dumping an Anelka are gone.

Don't remember what transfer site it was from. It was done ages ago to settle an argument regarding Wenger and transfer money.

Yes, an argument which you lost, badly.

Here's a link to my original post that the figures came from, it includes outgoing transfers as well, but only those over 250k: link

and the link to the page in the thread for relevant context: link

Oh the memories. I pilched the numbers off some site, but I can't remember which at the moment.. If I can find it I'll let you know.

On average, Arsenal lost around 9 million pounds on transfer fees (had to do some estimate for the undisclosed numbers) over the last 5 years. That's $15 million total or a $3 million loss per year.

Average loss per year (from 2001 to 2005) from transfer fees

    Chelsea: $83.7 million a year
Manchester United: $36 million a year
    Barcelona: $25 million a year
    Juventus: $15 million a year

Arsenal: $3 million [WOW, you guys have a very good manager]

"It was done ages ago." "Oh, this old thing?" Isn't it always the way?
